What Would Reagan Do?

A fine example of how the image of Reagan and the reality of Reagan are in direct conflict. If Reagan were president now and asking for the same things that President Obama is asking for regarding our finances, it would be alright because he is REAGAN!! But since it is Obama, it must be bad.

Sad, but not surprising. Like they do with Jesus Christ, the right makes up whatever fiction they want to create in order to further their (dangerous) beliefs.

You mean like the crazy "Republican Jesus" idea that demons exist because, well the Bible says they exist in no uncertain terms, and even quotes Jesus saying so? As opposed to you knowing for certain that they don't exist because… well… you just know! You mean that kind of fiction?

Gee, where would "the right" get such a crazy idea?

Demons
• Worship of (Leviticus 17:7; Deuteronomy 32:17; 2 Chronicles 11:15; Psalm 106:37; Matthew 4:9; Luke 4:7; 1 Corinthians 10:20, 21; 1 Timothy 4:1; Revelation 13:4)

Yep, "the right" is really pulling this stuff out of thin air! [/sarc]

I pity you, I really do.

Really? Let's hear it from the Gipper's own mouth:

Here's the final nail in the coffin; the full transcript of Reagan's speech:

http://www.reagan.utexas.edu/archives/speeches/1987/092687a.htm

Read it. Reagan was angry with the Democrats doing exactly the kind of things they're doing now. Here's the kicker.

"For those who say further responsible spending reductions are not possible, they are wrong. For those who say the only choice is undermining our national security at a time when the United States is close to an agreement with the Soviet Union on reducing nuclear weapons, they are wrong. For those who say more taxes will solve our deficit problem, they are wrong. Every time Congress increases taxes, the deficit does not decrease, spending increases. It's time for a clear and consistent policy to reduce the Federal budget deficit."

The "video" is a LIE. It's taken out of context to make Reagan sound like he's saying the exact opposite of his actual speech.

Democrats are using Social Security now in the same way they used military spending then (when the Soviet Union was still a serious threat). "Nice old people (military) you got there. It would be a shame if we had to cut spending there first."

I'm certainly no Christian M - but when it comes to inventing your own version of Jesus, you are no one to be casting stones. You either accept that everybody gets to do it, or you STFU about your version. If anybody in these parts comes close to the subject of C.S. Lewis' admonition, it is you and the other members of Leftboro Baptist.

Yet Reagan did raise taxes and he did so because it was the right thing to do. You guys really need to give this catechism a break if not forget it entirely. Cutting taxes does not create jobs nor does it bring in more revenue. If the tax rates were really high, then yes. But they aren't and are, in fact, low....which really makes the Tea Party look stupid and make no sense whatsoever. With low tax rates and cuts extended we are supposed to see jobs. Where are they? Oh yes, the phantom menace of uncertainty...

OBAMACARE STALLS RECOVERY:
http://www.heritage.org/Research/Reports/2011/07/Economic-Recovery-Stalled-After-Obamacare-Passed

Speaking of the weaknesses of Keynesian ‘economics,’ in today’s Wall Street Journal Stanford University economist John Taylor writes:

Big government has proved to be a clumsy manager, and it did not stop with monetary and fiscal policy. Since President Obama took office, we’ve added on complex regulatory interventions in health care (the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) and finance (the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act). The unintended consequences of these laws are already raising health-care costs and deterring new investment and risk-taking.

KEY TAKEAWAY:
Many businesses report that this legislation is holding back hiring. The data suggest that these complaints are not idle.

Because it is all made up, right?

As #4 points out, you dishonestly present this Reagan quote out of context, Mark, in a blatant attempt to turn the meaning of the complete speech on its' head.

After all, Reagan did raise taxes based upon promises by Democrats to restrict future spending. Promises that were soon shown to be lies, just like the promises to actually strictly enforce the border following an Amnesty was also proven to be a lie.

And then clowns like you wonder why Republicans don't believe Democrat promises to address future spending amount to any more than a turd in a field latrine.

And how about this from a Democrat and Obama voter:

Steve Wynn"

I know, I know, it doesn't fit the fucking narrative, so it's dismissed out of hand. What I wonder is how you can so blithely dismiss so much evidence and then still claim you are so much better informed than all of us non-education majors. Especially since the only thing easier to get than an Journalism degree is an Education degree.

What I'm embarrassed to admit is that for many years I knew that when the news programs (even NPR) reported on a subject that I knew in depth, they usually got it majorly wrong. Eventually it dawned on me that they were probably equally wrong about subject I didn't know in depth.

Of course, ED degrees being easier to get than Journalism degrees, it's no wonder you believe all you read...

Maybe if you believe it really strongly Mark, it will go away. After all, if your incredible business experience and towering intellect says it doesn't exist, who could possibly disagree?

No problem Larry. It was easy to fix.

Your latest link prompts yet another Reagan video. This one is an address from the Oval Office where he is proposing changes to the tax system. (I wish I new when it was given.)

Not only is confidence down, private sector job creation dropped immediately after Obamacare was signed, and it still hasn't recovered.

Report: Private sector job creation ground to a halt almost instantly after Obamacare passed

Ah, this is what you get when you criticize Jesus...(ahem) I mean Reagan. The fiction must stay in place. The truth is that Ronald Reagan would fail many if not all of the purity tests that the GOP currently employs.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps Obama should blame the economy on Reagan?

Larry said...

What fiction, Mark? Your video is is an out-of-context snippet that turns the meaning of the whole speech on its head. Why don't you address your own dishonesty?

Larry said...

Or ignorance?

Anonymous said...

It says a lot about Marxy that he considers going back to the full speech given by Reagan "keeping the fiction in place". And what it says is not good.

Or ignorance?

Mark might have been able to plead ignorance when he first put the post up. It's not as if the full original speech was easy to find. It took me almost an hour to track it down.

However, now that he has access to the full speech, ignorance is no longer a legitimate excuse. Once you know what his full speech is, it is not possible to view that snippet as "agreeing with the Democrats" (then or now) in any fashion. That means that the people involved in putting together that video knowingly LIED about Reagan's position. And now that Marxaphasia knows what Reagan said in the full speech…

Mark Ward said...

So let me see if I have this straight...Reagan never really raised taxes and he did not actually say the words that I am hearing and he really meant something else. Colonel Flagg is alive and well and posting on this blog:)

juris imprudent said...

Let's see, Reagan first pushed through one of the biggest tax cuts in U.S. history, then later in his Admin, signed off on a fairly minor increase.

From this, we are to conclude that Reagan was a bigger tax and spender than the Democrats of his day or today?

Honestly M I don't think you should be so hard on yourself - comparing yourself to Col. Flagg.

…he did not actually say the words that I am hearing and he really meant something else.

Did you read the full transcript? (It's only 763 words long.) Can you accurately restate it in your own words?

Based on the usual pattern of the voices in your head, the answer to that last question would be no.

What'sa matter, Marxy? Are you afraid to even try? Are you afraid that the attempt would blow a gaping hole in the false shell of empty self-confidence you use as a shield?

I get it now, Marxaphasia hates getting caught lying; so much so that he can't even admit his lies even to himself.
