This recent piece from the Christian Science Monitor effectively declared the end of the NRA's stranglehold on gun legislation. Consider the facts contained therein.
Democrats in congressional races defeated more than a dozen Republicans who hold an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association (NRA), including longtime Reps. Mike Coffman of Colorado and Pete Sessions of Texas. In Georgia, Democratic candidate Lucy McBath, a prominent gun-control activist who lost her son in a fatal shooting in 2012, ousted Rep. Karen Handel, the Republican incumbent. A ballot measure to dramatically tighten Washington State’s gun policies passed by a wide margin, and across the country, 60 percent of voters who headed to the polls favor strengthening gun laws.
Gun violence prevention groups advanced that cause in this year’s election. Candidates endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety, founded by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, won 46 of 57 congressional races. Everytown and Giffords – a group founded by former Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was gravely wounded in a 2011 mass shooting – spent a combined $11.8 million on the 2018 campaign, or $2.4 million more than the NRA.
Guess who else votes now, assholes? We do. And we have the young people on our side (aka the NUMBERS).
Further,
The $9.4 million that the NRA contributed to campaigns this year marked a drop of almost two-thirds from its spending in the 2014 midterms.
It must be hard to spend money without all that Russian flow coming in anymore...hee hee...
The gun lobby is dying. Thank god.

Election 2018 Predictions
Election 2018 predictions....
Dems take the House with the total number at 234 (GOP at 211). Honestly, I think it's going to be more but I wanted to go conservative on this one.
GOP holds the Senate but only because of Mike Pence. That's right, I'm predicting a 50-50 tie in the Senate. GOP will pick up North Dakota and the Dems will pick up Nevada and Arizona. Claire is going to hold on in Missouri.
Dems will add 8 to their column in the Governor races, picking up Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio and Wisconsin. The GOP will pick up Alaska.
How did I arrive at these conclusions? Pretty simple, really. Look at the states with heavy urban areas. More voters means more Democrats. Rural states and areas will hold for the GOP.
I also think that Trump beating the xenophobic drum of immigration is sub moronic considering he could be claiming credit of the economy.

Keeping It Local
The Democratic Party is finally getting the message: keep it local.
I've been saying this for years. If they want to win and keep it sustainable, they need to mimic what the GOP did from 2010 forward and focus on winning at the grass roots level with candidates that live in the districts. Find the little league coach or the den mother and get them to run.
Currently, there is a high amount of motivation to run given who resides in the White House so we are seeing a lot of first time candidates and a renewed interest in civic participation. This is a fantastic development that needs to carry forward in perpetuity if we want to make sure that the alt right never gains power again.
The election this fall is looking brighter and brighter every day.
