GRAB BAG VOLUME 4

Sorry about the "no column" last week. I am working on a column about the "liberal" media and it is slow in coming. So rather than throw out a half ass piece, I thought I would work on it some more and, in the meantime, do another Grab Bag.

SOOOOOOOOO WRONG
There seems to be a pattern lately of people coming up to me and telling me how badly they feel about voting for Bush Co in 2004. This is also true of people in the media, including Doug McIntyre the morning man on KABC. He wrote an extremely long apology recently on how deeply sorry he is for supporting Bush. In the letter, he called Bush "the worst two-term President in the history of the country. Worse than Grant. I also believe a case can be made that he is the worst President, period." Huh. Well, that's news to me! I wonder how long I will have to wait for apologies from just-Dave, Crabmaster, and my Uncle Bill? I think when the first ice flow is sighted in hell....

You can read the full apology here. And speaking of our president....

COURT TO BUSH: NO!
Hey, maybe the systems of checks and balances does work. The Supreme Court ruled, 5-3, this week that the Bush administration could not conduct prosecution of Gitmo prisoners the way they have been. Aw, shucks, I guess torturing the shit out of people is out now. Too bad..because I was hoping we would become even MORE like the animals we are trying to stop.

Oh well, back to the fucking drawing board!

MY FAVORITE GOVERNOR
Governor Tim Pawlenty gave a speech at the Republican State Convention when he accepted his party's nomination. He said the following:

I can tell you what your worst nightmare is. It's one of the big-spending, tax raisin, abortion promotin', gay marriage embracin', more welfare without accountability lovin', school reform resistin', illegal immigration-supportin' Democrats for governor who believe that Hillary Clinton should be president of the United States.

Huh. It's a good thing that conservatives aren't into fear mongering at all. And big spending? How can he say that with a straight face after the last six years of drunken frat boy-with daddy's-credit card spending that this administration has done?

CHRISTIANITY UPDATE
Hey, did everyone hear? Guns are cool now at church. Especially when a convicted felon is bringing them along! Grace Church in Eden Prairie, Minnesota recently co-sponsored an event along with AM 1280 (The Patriot) to salute our veterans with Oliver North as their speaker. Hmmm...nothing shows more respect to our veterans than having as your guest speaker a man who was convicted on three federal counts....after pleading it down from sixteen. I guess morals and family values are pretty high over there at Grace Church.

And a 21 gun salute at a church? When I think of Jesus Christ, the first image that comes to my mind is a large collection of guns. Yeah, that's what he was all about.

Oh, and if you visit their web site you can sign a petition to help people to know the "truth" about that direct-from-satan book, The Da Vinci Code.

ANN COULTER: FELON?
Could it be true? Did the Queen Bitch of the Universe break the law? Apparently, Ann Coulter violated the law when she illegally voted in the wrong district in Florida in a special election in earlier this year. In Florida, that is felony and now she is currently under investigation for what some witnesses have called a "bizarre" incident involving her usage of her real estate agent's address as her own address.

Nothing would please me more to see this sad excuse for a human being serving as Big Bertha's cigarette bitch in Cell Block D. Her delusional support of Bush Co goes way beyond mentally challenged...driving her to say things like the widows of the 9/11 victims, in their criticism of the Bush Administration's piss-poor terror attack preparedness, were just after the limelight and were pawns of liberalism. I don't use this word often but Ann Coulter is a cunt. We need to completely and utterly ignore her until the end of time.

THE END TIMES
According to the Family Research Council, several Fortune 500 companies have tolerant policies towards gay people. Gasp! In addition to the horrendous transgression of actually hiring gay people, these companies, which include our very own Wells Fargo and Target Corporation, allow domestic "partners" to be included in benefits packages. The Council is calling for boycotts of these companies to show support for employees with "real" families.

I find it interesting that an organization that calls itself The Family Research Council has no understanding at all about what being a family actually means and needs to do some research itself. Tony Perkins, President of the Organization, can start by googling the words "Compassion" and "Jesus Christ." In addition, perhaps they should MIND THEIR OWN FUCKING BUSINESS!!!

THE BEST BLOG EVER, DUDE
In closing, I can't say enough good things about my friend Pete's music blog. It just keeps getting better and better. If you love music as much as I do, make it a regular surfing stop. You can find it here.

Well, that's all for this week, kids. How about you? Anything in your grab bag? Leave a comment below

If you're waiting for an apology from me you're going to be waiting a while. The only reason you're looking for an apology is so you can "feel" as though your opinions (that's all they are btw) are somehow validated.

The whole "court to Bush" thing you posted was way off base...the ruling had nothing to do with torture. It had to do with the way we handle those terrorists in the courts/military tribunals/etc. etc. Facts have never gotten in your way before though. So we are down there torturing people...way to "support the troops".

Those 9/11 widows are on record calling Bush a "filthy warmonger". Seems like they can dish it out but can't take it because when anyone says anything back to them the left is outraged. Patty Wetterling, Mr. Berg, 9/11 widows...nobody is allowed to say anything back to them - they've suffered!!!

So Ann Coulter broke the law, who cares, send her to jail, they'll replace her with another talking head in no time. Michael Moore is currently being sued by an Iraq war veteran who lost both his arms for falsely portraying him as anti-war in F-911. Why didn't you write about that? Must have fallen under the radar somehow.

So you want people to "MIND THEIR OWN FUCKING BUSINESS"...then why the hell do you care so much about what is going on at Grace Church in Eden Prarie?

Actually the people you should apologzie to are my children. They are the ones that are going to have to live with all this bullshit. Go ahead and keep deluding yourself that facts are just my "feelings."

On Gitmo, don't you think we as Americans should ourselves to a higher standard?

Bush is a filthy warmonger. Please tell me how this is an opinion giving his actions and the facts on the ground in Iraq.

On Michael Moore, I thought Bush passed tort reform and frivilous lawsuits weren't worth mentioning anymore.

On Grace Church, I care enough to point at the sheer and utter hypocrisy of NCDs and their brain dead Christian Conserative supporters.

The only time I've ever had "buyer's remorse" on a vote was when I helped elect Jesse Ventura.

This next Governor's election will be tough for me. I'm a bleeding heart liberal, but I can't stand Mike Hatch. I also can't stand T-Paw (as they call him in the 'hood). Who's the Independence Party running this year?

Phil from Minnetonka said...

Ooh, one more thing. Speaking of mindless talking heads, how can you not comment on Rush "prescription meds with no prescription" Limbaugh? I had no idea Viagra provided the same painkilling effects as Oxycontin...

Anonymous said...

Ditto on the Jesse "buyer's remorse". Sticking it to the two party system sure felt good in the voting booth....not so much after that.

Pawlenty has to get re-elected. I can't die a happy man until I beat him in the Saint Paul Inline Marathon, and there's no guarantee I'll get it done this year. That geeky little guy is surprisingly fast! However, I think I'm starting in his wave this year, so maybe one well-timed hipcheck will help the cause.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go join the protest over the Target Corporation bringing thousands of jobs to the Brooklyn Park area that just quite aren't good enough.

I’m not apologizing for anything. You yourself have much more influence on your children than GWB ever will. Washington DC is not the center of the universe.

Glad to see you couldn’t refute my point that the recent GITMO ruling had absolutely nothing to do with torture. Score!

Higher standards? A call for that on this blog is hilarious!! We have libs on here "laughing their ass off" when people accidentally get shot in the face SIMPLY because they disagree with the politics of the people involved. Then Phil pokes fun at peoples addictions. So liberals finally found a drug addict they don’t like! I know why liberals love hearing stories like the ones mentioned about Grace Church and Rush Limbaugh…because it allows them to engage in the only argument/taunt they have left in their playbook – hypocrisy! That’s the only sin that really inflames them. It allows them to sit back and make fun of people who don’t live up to the standards that most liberals themselves simply renounce when it comes to most other members of society.

When you two raise your own standards then you can ask about higher standards for the rest of the population. You’re engaging in the exact same behavior that you accuse Rush of behaving in.

My standards on torture…I wouldn’t piss on those Al Queda prisoners if they were on fire.

On this blog, it's perfectly acceptable to say Bush has a "Nazi-esque" agenda. You are able to compare him to a man who was personally responsible for the deaths of over 6 millions jews as well as many others. Bush has never attempted to establish a "master race" or tried to exterminate all the "undesirables." Bush has never established death camps for anyone who doesn't vote Republican.

None of that really matters though, you guys can accuse Bush of having motives borne of the greatest depravity capable of man. One can say he sends thousands of brave soldiers to their deaths for no other reason than to get revenge for his dad and to line the pockets of all his oil buddies. One can say he's a filthy warmonger and argue as if that is a fact.

After 2 full years of that, Ann Coulter comes along and makes a comment in her new book about one group of 9/11 widows (who called Bush a "filthy warmonger") and she’s a "cunt". You accuse Ann Coulter of being a cunt for accusing these women of having less than pure motives? Excuse me?

Do you liberals not see the brick walls you hit head on or do you slam headlong into walls on purpose?

How is Ann Coulter a cunt for calling someone's sincerity into question, while at the same time you bring Bush’s sincerity into question with every column you write?

It's not even that you libs don't make a distinction. It's that you expect the American public not to notice.

Ann Coulter made an observation, as over the top as it was, about someone's behavior and you’re outraged that she is engaging in the exact same type of political discourse that is par for the course on this blog.

And through it all, not a single liberal has apparently noticed the monumental irony of this situation.

Good times.

The Independant party is putting up Peter Hutchinson and I will be voting for him. Mike Hatch tried to have my friend's dad thrown in jail. He is a toolbox and deserves a resounding defeat.

Equally as deserving to lose is T-Paw who has ensconced himself in the church of NCD.

I will be talking about Hutchinson a lot more in the coming weeks..

Crab, you know what's going on Gitmo...stop trying to pretend that you don't....at least you're man enough to admit that you wouldn't piss on those guys if they were on fire. Of course we are doing a bunch of nasty shit down there and tne Dems are just as much to blame for standing around and doing nothing.

What a bunch of losers....

One more thing on the Facts Vs. Opinion debate...this quote from the Mcintryre in the morning apology...

"But in the months and years since shock and awe I have been shocked repeatedly by a consistent litany of excuses, alibis, double-talk, inaccuracies, bogus predictions, and flat out lies. I have watched as the President and his administration changed the goals, redefined the reasons for going into Iraq, and fumbled the good will of the world and the focus necessary to catch the real killers of September 11th"

How can anyone say that this just opinion when in fact it is EXACTLY what has happened?

Anonymous said...

That's funny....I read HMHC's comment "I wouldn't piss on..." to mean something entirely different than what you did.

I'd love to explain to you, Markadelphia, how someone can say that the topics in your quote are just opinions. But since years of refutation on this blog of your tenet:
Observation + Deduction = Fact
haven't made a dent, I'll spare myself and everyone else the time of rehashing the same arguments.

I do have one question, though. "...fumbled the good will of the world..." Which part of the world do you suppose he meant? The part that had a proven financial stake in keeping SH in power? The part that had an insane idealogical stake in keeping SH in power? Or the part of the world that is too impotent to handle affairs in their own nation, much less the rest of the world?

Mark Ward said...

I'm talking about the part in which the people of Iran took to the streets after 9/11 and said that "We are all Americans." I am talking about the majority of the world who was behind us and against Osama Bin Laden. With the possible exception of England, the rest of the world can see the FACTS at what our country has become and is doing. That has fumbled the good will of the world.

The policies of this administration are, to put it simply, destroying this nation. And it has nothing to do with the fact that they are Republicans. They are just myopic, incompentent people who's goal is something 180 degrees away from the good of the American people.

And you know what the sad part is? When it does all fall apart, 30 percent (at least) of this country will think that it was the fault of the liberals and not the actions of Bush Co. Of course, that's when we will be the latest province of China so, due to the restrictions on free speech, no one will be allowed to debate the issue so who will really know?

Anonymous said...

Fact. I love your usage of that word. Especially when it's capitalized for effect. Very dramatic. Inaccurate, but dramatic. So I have to give you credit for that, if nothing else.

Color me pessimistic, but the "We are all Americans" sentiment had a shorter life expectancy than Jessica Simpson's next facial blemish. Don't forget that those Iranians in the streets saying "We are all Americans" were standing right next to other Iranians who were ululating and chanting "Allah is great. Death to America". Good will of the French or the Russians? Maybe we just need to start paying them as much as SH did and then that good will can be restored.

Maybe GWB did squander that good will, but I say so what. Having "friends" that support us only after thousands of innocent people are slaughtered isn't high on my priority list. It's a nice feel-good story, but feel-good stories only play in Hollywood, as far as I'm concerned.

Phil from Minnetonka said...

An Op-Ed piece in the Star Tribune today says that Ann Coulter is a satirist. I don't really think "satirist" when I think of Ann Coulter, do you? Is here stuff supposed to be funny?

Also, I propose a new rule for the "Notes from the Front" blog - NO MORE USING ALL CAPS! OR MULTIPLE EXCLAMATION POINTS!!! They are about as effective as ... Ann Coulter's satire.

Mark Ward said...

How would you suggest that I drive my point home in a STRONG AND EFFECTIVE WAY?

Anonymous said...

Drive it home with your undoubtedly large genitalia.

Mark Ward said...

I guess I am trying to figure out what facts I am distorting. This administration has proven time and time again that they are incompetent. When does opinion cease being opinion and become the obvious?

Conservatives are always yelling in my ear about criminals running free and liberals giving them all the breaks and yet they give the current criminals running our government the same amount of leeway. Why?

Anonymous said...

Incompetent? Sure. I don't (always) disagree with you when it comes to being critical of the skill, or lack thereof, with which GWB has handled some critical situations. Incompetent might be too strong of a word for me, but on this blog I've often agreed with you, and would say it's undoubtedly true that GWB has made some glaring mistakes as Pres.

So what are you distorting? Well, your very next sentence illustrates the answer..."criminal". Add that to:
** "destroying the nation"
** "murderer"
** "thief"
** "liar"
...

just to name a few that happen to appear in your postings within the past month. Add those to "nazi", "in it just to help his oil buddies", and the multitude of other accusations that you level at GWB, then maybe you can see why somebody might be less than impressed with what you call "fact".

It is absolutely your right to believe that you've examined the evidence correctly and have reached the incontrovertible conclusion that all of those things are fact. It is equally your right to wield those "facts" in political discussions. I would submit, however, that when doing so you might want to refrain from using the label "myopic" lest HMHC and I revel too much in the irony.

Mark Ward said...

So, by your logic, Crab and yourself would view ME as being "myopic" at viewing thieves and murderers as always being bad people and never backing down from that?

Anonymous said...

Not at all. I'm inclined to think that thieves and murderers are always bad people. Not backing down from that is just being stubborn, a trait you and I happen to share. Myopic is you branding GWB as a murderer and a thief in the first place, based solely on your interpretation of what has occurred, and then refusing to acknowledge the validity of other viewpoints, even to the point where you wonder aloud how anybody could possibly even have another viewpoint.

Liberal myopia....I think Dow Chemical makes a minty gel that you can use to combat it.

Anonymous said...

Actually, ADM is making the product, can only be inserted rectally though

Glad I don't have to take it

I'm so manly even my sentences don't have periods

Mark Ward said...

Well, and that's the real problem right now. I don't see how anyone, in the face of all logic and facts, could have another viewpoint about Bush Co. I say Bush Co because it's not just him...it's pretty much all of them.

They do many of the same things that thieves and murderers do but for some reason they get away with it...in the eyes of people who are completely unforgiving of any non-conservatives who do exactly the same thing
