Bill Maher on Glenn Beck

This is the whole New Rules segment from last Friday. Forward to 1:50 and check it out. It sums up the right's hyper over exaggeration to a tee!

You know, it's interesting to note the differences between the most popular talking heads on the right and left in the media.

On the right you have the angry (Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilly, Coulter, etc.). These people have appointed themselves the arbiters of what is right and what is wrong. Limbaugh, through his bombast and intimidation, has made himself the de facto leader of the Republican party. These people scream, and threaten and drum up hatred with the most extreme bile. Even though they apparently despised everything George Bush ever did, they never once uttered a peep about it until it was far too late to do anything about it.

On the left you have the funny (Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert, and in the past Al Franken). These people have not appointed themselves anything. They don't claim to be the leaders of the Democratic party, or anything for that matter (except Franken, who's actually trying to do something respectable). They will fervently deny they are the spokesmen for the left. They deride everyone and everything, including Obama and the Democrats.

Isn't it obvious by now that the right's penchant for toadying, secrecy, hatred and fear-mongering only make things worse, while the left's penchant for independence, openness, laughter, humor and sarcasm enlighten and brighten our world?

Some might say that Olbermann and the "liberals" at MSNBC are the left's talking heads. Not so much. The snarky, obnoxious remarks delivered by talking heads like Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity, Olbermann, et al, are just entertainment, exactly as Michael Steele, the chairman of the RNC, said before Rush handed him his head on a platter. The right-wing entertainers take themselves far too seriously, while the left-wing ones know their place.

I'd much rather get my dose of snarky, obnoxious comments in the context of a joke, instead of couched in ignorant, racist, sexist, bigoted double-talk.

Ah, blk, once again warms my heart.

I have to say that I hope the bile on the right continues because, as Mark has pointed out, it simply means more election wins for Dems.
