For the record, even though he is saying things I agree with, he's still a terrible president who has failed to defend this nation from within and without.
When Trump talks about eliminating due process over the removal of people's guns he sounds like a communist dictator instead of a fascist dictator. I don't see any difference.
It's all just hot air, anyway. Donald Trump doesn't care about gun control, gun rights or policy of any sort. He just wants to "win." During that meeting he thought that winning meant going with the gun control flow, because the spunky kids from Florida are trending on Twitter.
But in the end, the NRA will snap their fingers and Trump will knuckle under to them, because Trump always knuckles under. He's a loser and a coward, full of bluster, piss and vinegar.
Trump is weak. Trump is stupid. His supporters like him because he says stupid things: they don't care what he says, just how he says it. They like that he's always out of control: he's the class clown. They like that he grabs women by the pussy and pays off porn stars. Why? I have no idea.
Trump has never been able to get Congress to pass anything that wealthy Republicans didn't want. Any gun control measure has to get past the NRA-controlled House and a Republican filibuster in the NRA-controlled Senate. Serious gun control will never happen until the NRA is discredited and broken. If their callous disregard for human life doesn't break them, their links to illicit Russian campaign contributions may.
This episode -- and Trump's incessant attacks on his own attorney general -- prove that Trump is mercurial, mendacious and completely untrustworthy. He cannot be counted on for anything: he'll stab you in the back "so fast your head will spin" if he thinks it'll benefit him.
By next week he'll be claiming he never said he'd take people's guns away.
