His First Mistake

President Obama, in a meeting with Congressional lawmakers on Friday, said to the Republican representatives "you can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done." While he was stating the obvious, he made a critical error.

By mentioning Limbaugh in a meeting regarding the stimulus package, our new president has now empowered him and elevated him to the status of having a seat at the table. Rush Limbaugh should have no such fucking seat at the table when it comes to anything related to the direction of our country. He is an entertainer and lacks, in just about every way, the intellectual and moral strength that it takes to run this country. Or any country for that matter.

Now, someone like myself (a fourth rate blogger who only has about 200 readers as opposed to Rush's 13.7 million listeners) can mention Rush and get away with it as it usually makes my page loads go up. The fact that President Obama lowered himself by mentioning Rush's name nauseates me. Rush's ideas regarding where this country should go are akin to a 5th grader who is on an eternal temper tantrum...never admitting fault...never shutting up....never, EVER being wrong.

I knew he'd make mistakes, and I think the economic stimulus is going to hold a big one for him, but I didn't think he would ever make a dumb one like this so early. Ah well, he is only human:)

i think ur overstating the case mark, though i see ur point's logic perfectly. the pres of the usa shouldn't give a rat's arse what any talk show host talks about, especially when it's 98.5% spin and spec(ulation.) & therefore he shouldn't even bother to mention them. rush limbaugh is only cool or important to the listeners -- of rush limbaugh. and they are what? a few mill tops? whatever his highest daily average, it only makes him a celebrity to a minority fan-club. but he's been mentioning the pres a lot and generally in negative terms. so, if ob is game to rush, why can't ob mention rush? freedom is 2-way. also, i don't think it gives any1 a seat anywhere. the president is free to say whatever he likes (respectfully) about whomever he likes, because he's been a target of constant shit-stirring. the difference is, ob's in power and like rush, he's doing it 'his way' but hitting back when he's targeted. joanne.

. . . he has a weekly audience of nearly 20 million listeners -- on 600 stations -- according to Premiere which markets his program (washington post & others.) that makes Rush a celebrity talk show host (& broadcaster) influential with likeminded listeners who trust his opinons. His opinions have included this pres a lot, who is more influential and popular and can give as good as he gets. but agree with mark -- he shouldn't overcite rush. i think when he DOES, obama is trying to speak to or reach out, to rush's audience, more than the man himself. joanne.

I listened to the first 15 minutes of Rush while driving to lunch today. His main line was -

Obama doesn't need Republican votes to "get things done". Democrats are in the majority.

that's true. & someone who gets paid (approx) $52 mill a year isn't stupid but rather astute. wouldn't it be nice, and possible, if republicans and democrats could "get things done" on the merits of each case, not unquestioning tribal affiliation. rush could continue to "hope ob will fail" without working for that to take place through specualation (like the markets and confidence factor.) i'm not listening to rush -- last in line is more directly clued -- i'm just reading he what says via reports. joanne.

Why are you surprised Mark? Obama doesn't have the "intellectual and moral strength that it takes to run this country."

He's woefully inexperienced and naively idealistic. All we can hope for is that he fails in getting his policies enacted.
