Great Quotes!

Two great quotes to start off the week.

"She is a smart person, she is a capable person, she would be a vast improvement over the incumbent. What is also true is, I think it's very hard for Senator Clinton to break out of the politics of the last 15 years. I will create a working majority because I won't demonize my opponents and I already attract independent and conservative voters." -Barack Obama Feb 10, 2008

And this one...which leads into tomorrow's column.

"I think we are seeing the twilight of the loud mouth radio host."- P J O'Rourke, on the Bill Maher show February 7, 2008, in response to some conservatives dislike of John McCain.

2 quick points.

a) I think it will be interesting to see if Obama holds true to this. I hope so. Civil debate is what is needed. But, isn't your entire blog centered around demonizing the right?

b) Isn't Bill Maher just that? A loud mouth host? And surely one that demonizes the right...

a. I don't think I demonize the right. They do a pretty good job of doing that themselves. I also don't think that, for the most part, the left demonize anyone because they simply don't have the sack.

b. Bill Maher started out life as comedian and then turned political. Rush, Laura et al started life with a single purpose, which is now waning.

Au contraire, you are the poster boy for demonizing the right. Shall we count the references to anything and everything evil muttered against this President in particular and the right in general? It'd make Obama blush!

Single purpose? I wouldn’t say that. Rush started as a DJ (not so different from Bill’s comedian roots, I'd say) before moving political and Laura Ingraham started as a speech writer and then moved into a law career.

Waning? Perhaps; nothing is forever. I can’t say I follow either of their shows close enough to know the specifics but I would wager that both have larger audiences than Maher.

2 more great quotes.

"Clearly there's the lesson to be learned here. The lesson is that it's not a good idea to drink, it's not a good idea to be high on dope, and it's not a good idea to taunt a man-eating tiger." -- San Francisco Zoo Spokesman Sam Singer.

"I believe Hillary Clinton can restore America to what it once was - A vast arctic region covered with ice" -- not sure who said that one.
