Liberal Media Watch

Every time I see a story or stories which prove that the media is far from liberal and interested in selling whatever their corporate owned asses are peddling, I am going to start pointing it out. Starting fucking today...which is why you see, at the bottom of this post, tags appearing for the first time. Anyone who does a search for liberal media might be pointed here. From now on, all of you can consider this a repository of information that proves how bullshit the claim is that the media is liberal. Please tell your friends...

Anyway, let's take a look at the New York Times, as an example. Called the "Traitor Times" by many on the right, this is the same newspaper that sat on the wiretap story for a year...a fucking year!...because they were too afraid of Dick Cheney. This is the same newspaper whose reporter, Judith Miller, went to jail because she wouldn't reveal who in the Bush Administration was leaking information about undercover CIA agents.

Now we see they have hired Bill Kristol to be a columnist. And last week they ran a series on Charlie Rangel and his palatial apartment set up. Are there still people out there who consider the New York Times liberal? If so, what is the matter with you?

But the real icing on the cake was the latest issue of the New Yorker. Check out this cover.

Um...what do you think they were trying to accomplish with this cover? Could it be they wanted to.....SELL SOME SHIT?

Once again, I feel totally vindicated. The editors of the magazine say they were trying to lampoon the right's view of the Obamas but it doesn't take a genius to figure out they were just trying to boost sales and raise advertising rates in a struggling economy.

They are pandering, as most members of the media do, to the lowest common denominator, encouraging a tabloid culture whose members exist only on the most paranoid and superficial levels of emotional intelligence.

I see example of this crap everyday and wonder..how does this favor liberal views...exactly?

A conservative guy I know recently said that he didn't see what the problem was with the cover. I looked at him and thought he was joking. He wasn't. He thinks Obama is a Muslim. Nothing I could say could persuade him otherwise. He got an email about it.

This would be an example of a time when I am not proud of my country. This sort of culture has been encouraged quite heavily in the last eight years from a certain group of people. They are encouraging ignorance and fear, as you have said many times, Mark, and inexplicably are offended when you call them on it.

Hey mark, I just peeked in at Kevin's blog. You should read their comments on this photo. I had to go for the extra large tabs of Alka Selzer.

Yep, I saw some of them. Really scary. That thread started off with some decent analysis and has now degenerated into the posters basically agreeing with the cover and saying it's pretty much true.

That's pretty much the theme of the last eight years. Take a look at our country now...it's worked out so well with that line of thought, hasn't it?

Truth be told, I'm one of those undecideds, but between The New Yorker Cover and the "Terrorist Fist-Jab comment by E.D. Hill on FOX" (and btw, I never saw a 'terrorist fist-jab' durring my deployment in Iraq), I'm just about to throw my vote to Barack Sadam-"anti-christ"-Osama-bin-llamma Obama just because the media's really starting to piss me off!

Media liberal? Media Conservative? Where does one go to get accurate and unbiased news these days? (Other than at markadelphia.blogspot.com of course)

When did news reporting become an attempt at mind control!? *note to self ~ Don't be so effin naive, twas always thus; and twill always thus shall be*

Political media question: Should 'One if by land, Two if by sea' had a third option? "Three if by Tax Scofflaw.

Well said sir. And thank you, as always, for the edits.

You can find accurate, unbiased news on PBS. Newshour every week night, Washington Week, Now and Bill Moyer's Journal on Fridays. National Public Radio also provides truly balanced news coverage. BBC World News is another great outlet for unbiased news, one with an outsider's viewpoint of American politics.
As Agent Mulder would say, "the Truth is out there." We just gotta look for it.

Sara, you and Mark are so much alike!!!! The gentleman you spoke to isn't a friend, he isn't an acquaintance...he is "a conservative guy" (exactly the way I was introduced to someone by Mark a couple weeks ago). I'm not ashamed of it mind you, just ironic for people who claim to want the country to come together to base their introduction of people to one another on the differences between us. Nothing like group identity because we aren't individuals right?). I think I'll introduce people by their race or sexual orientation if it differs from mine.

"Hi. This is Jack. He's gay".

On the flip side, I can introduce any one of you to a lady I know (Mark has met her - whe is the girlfriend of a guy who runs sound at the bar where we sometimes watch vikings games in the basement) who hates US military personnel. Yep, she said she hates all US troops because they are killers. I can provide proof via a link anytime Mark if you need it, just not on here.

I wonder how well that line of thought will work for this country? It's a line of thought by someone on the left so it must be relevant to some democratic politician out there right? As PL says, damn this is easy.

Sorry for going over 1 line Dave. I'll get back to standard operating procedure now.

You neglected to note this:

"Marcus Brauchli was named executive editor of The Washington Post yesterday, returning him to the top ranks of American journalism less than three months after Rupert Murdoch forced him out as the Wall Street Journal's editor."

This is another turn to the right at a "liberal" newspaper.

As witnessed by the vitriol here, people invest way too much of their egoes in labeling themselves as one thing or another.

If we instead devoted that energy to finding real solutions to common problems we'd be way ahead.

Tribalism is a serious problem, as we've seen in Iraq, Israel/Palestine, Darfur, Kosovo, etc. By emphasizing and exacerbating differences reaching an accommodation becomes almost impossible.

The United States has been in serious danger of fragmenting socially. Karl Rove and his ilk did everything they could to further this rift.

This kind of thinking is self-destructive. Conservatives have identified themselves and their ideology on this basis alone for twenty years now. They have opposed reasonable ideas for many years now simply because their opponents favor them.

Energy conservation, improved mileage standards, wind power, global warming should not be partisan issues. Yet the "conservatives" have championed waste, gluttony and destruction of the environment as "freedom," and done everything possible to prevent these issues from being addressed in any meaningful way.

It has never made sense for conservatives to oppose energy conservation, or protecting the environment. Thankfully, some conservatives are beginning to wise up -- like T. Boone Pickens and his wind farm initiative.

"Liberals" have some of the same problems. If people are going to live in the United States as permanent residents, they should speak English. The inability to communicate probably kills hundreds, maybe thousands, of people every year, but there's no way to measure the effect. Local governments and businesses simply can't afford to translate everything into 100 different languages. English should be declared the national language, and everyone should be able to take English classes free of charge.

Being able to speak English will not prevent you from speaking Spanish or Russian. It won't strip your culture away from you. Yes, it will eventually strip that culture from your kids and grandkids. But if you want them to keep that culture, stay in the country that has that culture. There's nothing racist about that statement -- if you don't want to be an American, don't live in America. But if you do want to be an American, great! Welcome!

People really need to start thinking about what the country as a whole needs, and not just what they personally think they need just this moment. Yeah, paying $4 a gallon for gas stinks. But what else would make us stop driving such inefficient cars at 80 miles an hour? High gas prices are the wake-up call we need, touching on every major issue of the day, from global warming to obscenely overpaid CEOs.

We have to start making some real decisions about what we really need versus what corporate marketing has told us we want. Does it make any sense to sit idling in an SUV for 10 minutes in a drive-through lane to buy a one-dollar taco?

Holy dogshit. Blk said something I agree with (English language bit).

I sit in the drive-thru of White Castles myself. It’s worth it.

Global warming and energy – for another thread.

Staying on topic – genuinely curious to know why those conservatives have recently been hired by newspapers…any guesses from anyone on here? Does their recent hiring coincide with the slumping sales of newspapers over the past several years?

Diciembre yo voy a viajar a Europa. Mi casa es no lejos de aqui. Me gusta baila salsa. (anyone else here speak Spanish by chance?) Quisiera una mesa para dos. Cerca de la ventana. Cuanto cuesta? Es damasiado caro!

If I want to see how the Mexicans live I will go to Mexico, not Van Nuys. If I want to know how the Algerians live, I will go to Algeria, not Paris. Remember, a country has two things, and two things only — a border and a culture, and you shouldn’t violate either. Already too many foreigners want to live in the USA and in Western Europe, obeying all the tenets of their previous culture that they hated enough to leave. If it was so bad that you left, why bring it along?

You want to know what true diversity is? In 2005 I took a ferry boat from Newcastle, England to Amsterdam. Most passengers on the cruise tended to congregate with others their countrymen. The English are different then Germans, who are different then French, who are different then Italians, who are different then Greeks, who are different then — whoever. Viva La Difference! That’s diversity as it is intended to be, from country to country, not the phony diversity of people going to another country and taking their culture with them.

Those Europeans who speak 3 or 4 languages – they speak those languages for COMMERCE – so they can do business with their neighboring countries. English is the universal language after all. When a Greek and a Norwegian meet, guess what language they will communicate to each other in? English.

Speaking of the vitriol and labeling here, Ghandi said "We must be the change we seek". Now I've done my share of labeling but only in relation to politics on here. In terms of interpersonal relationships...labels are for soup cans.
