Are We Ready?

Originally, I had planned on discussing Obamanomics this week. I thought it would be beneficial to really get into the meat of his ideas for the economic direction of our country which I think is the most important issue facing us at present. This all changed, however, when it was discovered that three men were planning to kill Senator Obama when he gives his acceptance speech tonight and Invesco Field.

My mind just hasn't been on the economy...it's been on whether or not we, as a nation, are ready to move forward. I look at our country and see a very large group of people who are, essentially, children. They don't want to go forward...they want to stay backward. Inexplicably, they think that nothing is wrong with our country. Some of this group doesn't like Senator Obama because he is black. Some don't like him because of his name or they still believe the falsehood that he is a Muslim. Many in the group don't like him because they think both of these things but can't face the disgusting bigotry inside of themselves so it comes out in different ways....like mentioning the fact that Obama's middle name is Hussein and then feigning innocence when called on it. "What? That IS his name," they say.

I have to admit I'm pretty nervous about tonight. I don't know if I will even watch. Up until now, the masters of this large group of people I am talking about have been content in character assassination of Senator Obama. I wonder if they are content any longer. Because the hard truth is that Barack Obama is a major threat to their way of life...a way of life that depends on the ignorance and fear of their lapdogs. Some or most of that ignorance and fear would be gone in an era of Obama which means....they would be gone as well.

In many ways, I am disgusted by what our country has become in the last eight years. Many people who post here rip me for blaming Bush for everything. In the final analysis, they might be right. I look at what is being said about Senator Obama and the clear hatred of him...hatred that is clearly violent...and have realized that a very large voting bloc of this country are complete pieces of shit.

They have no fucking business deciding the direction of this country and will continue to hold us back as from becoming what we should be as long as well allow them to do so.

I'm too nervous to watch as well. I lived through the 60s. People that think the way Obama does get shot in this country. That's what we are. We aren't any different than a banana republic sometimes.

We condemn Hitler for having concentration camps yet we had our own for the Japanese because we "had to." We condemn Iran for wanting to acquire nuclear weapons and yet we are the only country that has ever used them. We are disgusted by the madrassas of Saudi Arabia yet a large voting bloc in this country want prayer in school.

How are we different again?

The answer to your question, Mark, is No, I don't think we are ready.

No, we aren't.

Go re-read some old comments from last in line, just dave, juris, sw and rld. I don't think Obama is going to win. There are far too many people like them in this country.

Your last line is a whopper markadelphia. Are you going to tell people who can vote and who can't now?

I assume he meant that by our inaction and lack of unity we have allowed the bozos to set the agenda for this country.

The right is aiming for exactly the kind of reaction you're showing, Mark. Their exact goal is to be vile as possible and to incite viciousnes in their followers.

In battle fighters scream and beat their chests in an attempt to intimidate their enemies. This is exactly the same tactic that the right is using to rally their troops and to intimidate their enemies (they don't consider the Democrats to be opponents, they consider them enemies).

They are encouraging the fringe elements of their party to mutter dark whispers of assassination and worse. This is an attempt to make moderates shy away from Obama and vote for the safer McCain. Look at the mess the Florida fiasco caused. Imagine what would happen if Obama died like Bobby or John F. Kennedy? It could quite possibly tear the country apart.

The dark forces want to keep that in the forefront of our minds. We don't want that, so we can't vote for Obama. We're not ready for that yet. Vote for McCain.

As Mark has mentioned many times, these people use fear, uncertainty and doubt as their weapons. If we succumb to their rantings and shy away from what's right, they will win.

McCain would be a disaster for this country. He will further the worst of Bush's policies and render us completely helpless. Witness how he's trying to milk the situation in Georgia -- one that he quite possibly had a hand in. Remember, Georgia attacked Ossetia first the day before the Olypmics -- and McCain himself says he's been advising Georgia's president on a daily basis.

What did McCain tell him?

RLD,

I meant that out of roughly 210 million eligible voters only 110 million vote. I'd like to see the type of voter turnout they get in France-70 sometimes 90 percent. If more people got involved, we would not have shitbags running our country. The last eight years never would've happened and more people would be alive today rather than fucking dead.

Who the hell is Sarah Palin?

Anyhoo, my name was mentioned! Someone was thinking about me! Sorry I haven’t been here all week…I’ve been out there living life. My friend Inga from Germany was in town this week and I went salsa dancing Monday and Tuesday, won both softball games on Wednesday and last night was spent doing the horizontal mambo with the gf. This weekend I go bass fishing. Life is good. Sorry, I just can’t relate to people who are being held down by the latest word that ends in "-ism". I'm so out of touch.

You read my posts Eddie? Coincidentally, I went back and re-read your posts. Only took me 35 seconds because you have only shown the ability to type insults on here. Tell you what, why don’t you pick one of the big issues of the day like health care or energy production, bring what I typed right up here and offer up a lengthy response to it. Sara, Elizabeth and vheights can do the same as well. You have all weekend as I won’t have internet access till Monday evening. Downtown and torch aren’t allowed to address me because they have still haven’t posted their health care plans for the nation. Nut up you 2 keyboard cowboys. Mark and I have been back and forth plenty of times…I want to see if any of the rest of you can type anything up. Know that any idiot can put down "OMG that is sooo stupid lololol btw yer racist". I’ve been wrong plenty of times in my life. Know that I now have the ability to brush any charge of being wrong right off my shoulders as long as I’m happy to be wrong. That precedent has been set, and not by me.

Or perhaps some of you should practice what you preach. Not a one of you offered up 1 ounce of argument when the founder of the Canadian Health Care system came out a couple months ago and confirmed everything I said about the Canadian Health Care system over a year ago on this blog and contradicted what others said on the issue. The non-response I got speaks louder than your insults.

I didn’t watch a minute of the dem convention, or even the coverage of it, until last night. I saw the second half of the speech and 10 minutes of review of it by ABC news. I noticed Obama said that we can disagree with people without attacking the character of the other person and I began to wonder if you here all hold yourselves to that same standard. I think you all know that justdave, Juris, PL and myself can type up pages of criticism of Obama based on his policy alone and I don’t think for a second that any criticism of him from rational people stems from some deep, dark place called racism or disgusting bigotry. He delivered a great speech last night and got done what he needed to get done. Obama says he wants to become independent of foreign oil in ten years. How? By tapping natural gas reserves. I wonder whether Obama, unlike Nancy Pelosi, understands that natural gas is a fossil fuel for which we must drill offshore for. How the hell can someone be for Natural Gas but against drilling for it? Or is it racist or bigoted for me to ask that question? Obama also came out for developing nuclear energy but does anyone here want to take a guess at how far nuclear energy production would go forward in a Democratic Congress? He also reminded us that we import three times as much foreign oil as when John McCain went to Washington. That's true, because the Democratic Party has enacted legislation that makes it illegal to develop our domestic resources out of concern for the environment. Obama looks forward to debating McCain...as soon as he’s done turning down opportunities to do so (the town hall meetings McCain desperately proposed). He says he is going to cut wasteful programs but he won’t name any programs by name. He said he is going to shore up social security but won’t say how. He says it is important to be right about Iraq then picks a running mate who voted for the war. Guess that argument went right out the door. He says that being in Washington for 26 years is a problem yet picks a running mate that has been in Washington even longer than that, longer than I have been alive. He said something to the effect of those who have health insurance will see their premiums go down then said that those who don’t have insurance will be put on government insurance. If anything, that’s an incentive for companies to stop offering health insurance to their employees.

Those are all valid questions to ask and it isn't racist to ask those questions. Please don't answer my questions with "Well, he won't" or "Read his books".

I tend to not take too much stock in what people say, I pay attention to what they do. Here is what the democrats have done in the last 2 years with regards to energy production in this country – Sue Opec, lauch 7th investigation into price gougers, lauch 4th investigation into speculators, offer up $20 billion of new taxes on oil producers, halt oil shipments to the strategic petroleum reserve. If you disagree with that don’t come back and list off a bunch of democrat proposals or how little the republicans have done, if I am wrong tell me what democrats have done, as in accomplishments, as in problems solved. Earn my vote. Words have to match the actions, in politics as well as personal lives as well.

Now lets get some posts on here.

Now I haven't been able to stop laughing this morning because this link below describes so many people we know and love here perfectly. See - first post in this thread.
