The Biggest Supporters

Next time you have a conversation with your average conservative, ask them how they feel about affirmative action. Between their not-so-genuine insistence that they are not racist and their spittle from screaming at the top of their lungs about how unfair everything is right now with employment standards (i.e. I'm white and I'm all a feared of these different colored folks), try to insist that they tell you EXACTLY what they find to be faulty with current laws regarding equality in the workplace.

The most common answer they will give you is that businesses should be able to hire the most qualified person regardless of sex, race, color or creed. It's too bad that they don't stand by their words. I offer the picture below as an example.

Shouldn't a man who is supposed to be patriotic know the proper way to hold our flag?

Most conservatives don't actually want someone who is qualified for the job of presidency. This explains why many of them despise John McCain, a man who I generally disagree with on most issues, think his only direction for the path of this country is backwards and is more or less full of crap. He is, however, qualified for the job. And we can't have that, can we?

In looking at President Bush, take just a moment and think....what is the one thing that a president must do on a daily basis? The one thing he should be impressive at?

Take a moment....

Take a moment....

It's public speaking and putting an impressive image out to the world. He is a miserable failure at both. The photo above clearly demonstrates how poor he is at the latter and one need only do a simple YouTube search to see how poor he is at public speaking. I recall a conversation I had a few years ago during the 2004 election in which a person I was playing tennis with told me he was voting for President Bush because, y'know, he was in the military and that's what military people do. He went on to say, "But keep him away from a microphone. That man is a horrible public speaker!" Setting aside the fact that the Republican Party has been the worst thing to happen to the US military, umm......isn't public speaking one of the top qualifications for the FUCKING JOB OF PRESIDENT!!!!!

Sheesh...

If he were at a job interview, a conservative would look at his resume and laugh. Hmm...let's see...ran oil company into the ground...ran Texas Rangers into the ground....ran Texas into the ground....and you want to be our CEO....how exactly are you going to do that? Buh Bye.

Here's the deal, folks. Conservatives like to talk a good game about affirmative action but at the end of they day, THEY vote on their feelings and beliefs, not who is better for the job. They want someone who thinks like them, looks like them, and someone they can have over for a barbecue. Conservatives are the biggest supporters of affirmative action. And, if that person does not share their EXACT beliefs and is clearly more intelligent than them? Well, then they are elitist. They are arrogant.

They are......Barack Obama.

No shit they are. How else would someone like Michelle Bachmann, my moronic congressperson, get elected?

You know I think Bush is unfit to be president, but that flag isn't backwards. If you put a flag emblem on the starboard side of a ship, or on your right shoulder, it's supposed to be in that orientation. Because if it were made of cloth the wind would blow it in that direction.

The way he's holding it is symbolic of the real problem with this man. It's in the customary orientation when HE looks it.

The man is a complete narcissist. He doesn't think about anything in any terms other than how it affects him. He lacks any sort of compassion or understanding of other points of view. Which pretty much describes everything that has gone wrong with this administration.

Now, many conservatives think this is a namby-pamby, liberal, stupid way of thinking. But nothing is more useful than understanding other people, knowing what they need and want, and why they need it and want it. Brute force and bravado cannot always win the day; at some point you have to come to an accommodation with your enemies internationally, and compromise with rivals domestically.

I mean, look at America and England. The United States and Germany. The US and Japan. The US and China. The US and Russia. We have been at loggerheads with all of these countries at one point or another, and had until recently reached an accommodation with all of them.

Now, mostly through Bush's bullheadedness, the accommodation with Russia has been slowly unraveling for the past seven years. Through either incompetence or intention Bush has allowed the relationship with Russia deteriorate to the point that we no longer have any moral or legal authority to check their actions.

Now that the tables have turned and Russia holds all the energy cards, we are going to be on the short end of the stick.

Which is just one more reason we have to stop this foolish dependence on oil and move to other sources of energy. If we don't need oil from Russia, or Saudi Arabia, or Venezuela, or Sudan, they'll have that much less power over us.

Yeah, and take the teleprompter away from obama and he goes uuuhhhhh, uuuuuhhhhh. Good point blk, looks like markadelphia didn't even know that the flag looks like that when on a soldiers shoulder, in a moving forward kind of pose. Talk about nit picking, and you all are the ones who have been telling people that flag pins are no big deal. You don't know a whole lot about obama markadelphia, you've only read his books and heard him deliver pre-packaged speeches.

...just out of curiosity, BLK, what would you suspect the Russians need & want with their invasion of Georgia, and why do they need and want it?

In your opinion, what would the accomodation entail?

Nice blog. I am a Russian emigrant and I can answer your question, -just dave. The answer is money. Putin is all mob and so are all the people that work for him. Georgia isn't making their payments and so the army invaded. It's really that simple.

I'm curious now. How many of you liberals who post here think that everyone who opposes affirmative action is a racist.

I don't think all people that oppose AA are racist. It comes down to ignorance. The people who oppose AA have no earthly clue whatsoever the mountains that people who are not white (or male for that matter) have to climb.

Sara, what do you do for a living? Are you a student?

Anonymous said...

No, I'm not a student. That was quite awhile ago. I work at an ad firm doing all sorts of things.

So anyone who opposes AA is ignorant.

Anonymous said...

Pretty much, yes. AA is not a perfect system. But what would you have in its place? People are not white and not male have a definite disadvantage in this society.
