Ohio Bullshit Beginning Early

Well, we knew it had to happen. The Republicans would be pulling their usual bullshit in Ohio. Apparently, the McCain campaign re-wrote the absentee ballot request form it sent out to a million people by adding an extra box on it. The box, which is completely unneeded on the form due to the fact that election judges check eligibility anyway, asks you to check it if you are an eligible voter. If you don't check it, under Ohio law, you would not be able to vote.

And, of course, the box is easy to miss. Hmm..I wonder who they sent out the request forms to?

Gee, let me think hard about this one.

Some additional information on the topic...(can't say I'm familiar w/ the source)

It's good that you're laying the ground work early so that you'll have plenty of ammunition with which to criticize the upcoming McCain administration.

I can almost hear the "They stole the election..." mantra already. Just like 2004. And 2000... And, well, every election the left loses.

Laying the ground work early. This is classic. Conservative radio uses this tactic extensively, from the locals to the nationals. Dave knows the drill.

My other favorite tactic used in Conservative radio is to accuse and condemn the Dems for doing the exact same thing the Republicans are doing.

I'd like to ask Dave what makes Him a Republican? More specifically, what Republican platform ideas appeal to him and how if he can, tell us how this current administration has embodied those ideas? And last how his life is better than it was 8 years ago?

Dave the floor is yours

Any of you want to post the stuff ACORN has been convicted of or should I do your research for you?

Well, since I have the floor…

What makes Dave a Republican? Enquiring minds want to know. Well, first off, I’d consider myself more a conservative; Republicans simply hold more of those views.

What are some of those views (off the top of my head & in no particular order)…
National sovereignty
National security
Energy
Self reliance
Melting pot over tossed salad
Culture
Socially conservative
Morality
Fiscally conservative
Less government
Less regulation
Fair taxation
Fair criminal sentencing
Keep criminals in jail
Capital punishment
Tort reform
Education
Equal opportunity, not equal outcome
Constitutional judges
Conservationist, not a global warming alarmist

Unfortunately, ‘W’ is not a conservative. I wish! But this administration holds closer to these values. They’ve strengthened defense, taken the offensive in the War on Terror, reduced taxes, lessened regulation, removed (some) obstacles to energy independence (about time!), appointed judges who interpret the constitution w/o making up laws as they go along, etc. I wish they’d done more in some areas and less in others (stop spending money!!), but there is nothing hidden here; they more or less move along the party platform.

I think I became a conservative on March 30th, 1981. I was in junior high when John HInckley attempted to assassinate President Reagan. Growing up in liberal MN, I knew people generally voted Democrat and I liked what I heard in Reagan, but I was too young to vote and was more interested in girls and football than politics (still am, actually). But I remember when the announcement came over the intercom and the class broke into cheers. I knew at that point that I could never associate myself with that element.

Looking at the other side, well, Democrats may view themselves as the party of enlightenment and humanity. But I view them as the party of abortion on demand; the party of welfare dependency; the party of generational poverty; the party against equal opportunity; the party of race-based policy; the party sending their own to private schools yet forbidding inner-city children the same opportunity; the party of militant educationists; the party of revisionist history; the party stifling of free inquiry and debate at university; the party of intolerance of religion and religious people; the party of disuniting America; the party that has laid waste to sound convictions about God, man and community; the party of union coerciveness; the party tolerant of drugs; the party that undermines sexual morality and societal norms; the party discouraging of entrepreneurship and punishing of success; the party of greed and envy; the party of taxation so confiscatory as to border on thievery; the party that has so perverted criminal law that our own judicial system is scoffed at; the party of appeasement and apologetics; the party grudging for military preparedness; the party maniacally hostile to even the notion of anti-missile defenses; the party of earth-worship over sensible conservation; the party for public subsidy of execrable, hateful “art”; the party that labors day and night to control the lives of ordinary men and women.
…but that’s just an ice breaker.

On a personal level, I find it very hard to like liberals. Living in MN, I have many friends who are Democrats, but there’s a big difference. Democrats are reasonable; liberals are not. We can talk politics for hours and I’d never hear a reference to National Socialism in comparison to our administration. I can see (if not agree w/) their views and they with mine. Not so with liberals. Liberals are angry, sad people. They’re always upset about something. Always protesting something. …never taking responsibility for anything. And they’re just not nice.

Take a random thing, for instance…bumper stickers.
I’ve seen a couple of right-wing bumper stickers. My favorite was “10 out of 10 Terrorists agree; anybody but Bush”, but, for my driving habits at least, they are decidedly in the minority; usually of a couple of varieties. Either a simple campaign sticker w/ the candidates name or something religious, “God loves you” or some other benign message. Not so w/ bumper stickers from the left…

“So many Christians, so few lions”
The little fish w/ feet on it or Darwin written inside
“The road to hell is paved with Republicans”
“Somewhere a village is missing an idiot”
A plethora of anti-Bush…
A plethora of anti-Cheney…

It says to me that liberals are not happy w/ a slogan promoting their own views. For some reason, they feel the need to demean the others’. The anger. The vileness. Even if I supported some of the left’s political positions, I simply don’t want to be in their club because of their attitude.

In direct response to your question…

My life does not depend greatly on any administration. It is better today because of my children (2 & 4) and my drive to make a better life for my family than I had. If President Obama decides to take a bunch more of my income to give to Joe Blow because he quit school at 16 or subsidize some ‘shock art’, well, I’ll just work that much harder.

…whew…

So, that’s it; more or less... No need to respond in kind; I don’t care much what makes liberals tick as long as I can avoid them when needed.

"I don’t care much what makes liberals tick as long as I can avoid them when needed."

That seems to be a less than true statement, since you're a regular here, Dave. Obviously, you must care what we Liberals have to say. And you're certainly not trying to avoid us, or you just wouldn't post here. I think you do care, maybe a lot. I'd like to think it's from an open-minded standpoint that maybe, just maybe, we DO have something worthwhile to add to the national debate.
But that's just the optimistic Liberal in me.

..."when needed" was the key language in that sentence. Every now and then one must step back to retain one’s sanity.

I was referred here from a friend and have stayed because I have an insatiable appetite for debate and being right. I’m also a true believer (OK, you got me; I'm one of those "caring" Republicans) who (probably foolishly) believes that I could perhaps change someone’s mind. …a complicated mix; kind've like a political missionary.

Dave, you certainly have changed my mind on a number of issues. I see many fair points that you and Crab make regarding the economy and health care. We will never be able to have a single payer health care system in this country. It should never be mandatory. It wasn't just you that brought me to this conclusion but folks on Kevin Baker's blog as well.

That being said, the richest country in the world should also provide the best health care for those who work full time jobs, those who are too sick to work, children, and the elderly. It is a global embarrassment that we tell people working two jobs to "pull themselves up by their boot straps" and get a third job to afford health care. This is why I support Senator Obama's plan. It is an appropriate balance.

Going to be writing about this today but regarding the economy...why would someone like Warren Buffet support Obama and advise him on the economy? I think it is fair to say that there is more conservative economic theory in Obama than you might think. Our economy has strayed from good capitalism. I agree with you that liberals are morons when it comes to how our economy should work. Competition is good. Capitalism is good.

Corporatism is not. Sometimes I think you support this.

Well, I'm delighted you are not just a cheerleader of your party! You are obviously quite thoughtful and intelligent. I call myself and independent. I was a supporter of McCain in the Primary against Bush. I can say your list looks much like mine except for capital punishment. I am voting Obama in November.

I know many liberals and democrats, but none of them are as hideous as you have described. These appear to be generalizations and quite honestly your post seems have a lot of that anger you think the other guy has.

I have met immoral republicans and fiscally conservative democrats. Maybe we should have a have a new party, called the party of reason.
