Why Are Liberals So "Crazy" About Sarah Palin and John McCain

Someone just sent me this email. It sums things up quite nicely.
  • If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."
  • Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, a quintessential American story.
  • If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
  • Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.
  • Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.
  • Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.
  • If you spend 3 years as a community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.
  • If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.
  • If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising two daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.
  • If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.
  • If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
  • If , while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.
  • If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.
  • If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

No shit. This is dead on right. And, as you always say mc, the righties have done a great job of playing the victim better than the left ever did and now all the press is very positive about her.

Could we ever get to the point in this country where we call an idiot an idiot?

Well, calling people idiots is all you seem to know how to do downtown. Just where the hell is the positive press for Palin coming from that you reference? I think the maverick label is reserved for a politician's positions on issues, bucking their own party. I realize that someone voting "present" 130 times is probably considered gutsy in your books. How do the communities look today that he worked in? Who is injecting race into the campaign? $150,000 voters? Sounds like ACORN to me. How many meetings did the committee that obama was the charmal of have? It's less than 2. Why doesn't obama talk about some of those 131 bills once in a while? How many passed into law? Any idiot up there can attach his/her name to someone elses bill. It's one thing to advocate abstinence and quite another to govern that way. This is the second time mccains marriage has been mentioned on this blog - must be that new era of politics we are entering. Obamas wife earns $300,000 a year doing community outreach at a hospital and another $100,000 a year being on the board of a food company. They talk about hope then sit in a church for 20 years with a preacher preaching the exact opposite.

If you send people up to Alaska to investigate the sponsors of Todd Palins snowmobile race, if you hack into peoples email accounts and post images of them on the web then you are a part of the new era of politics that we are entering.

You can start with this week's issue of Newsweek. She's on the cover and the story reads like a bio for Miss America. Nauseating...

I saw the Charlie Gibson interview. Her answers were moronic. And what does the right say? It's all Gibson's fault and the liberal media. What a joke.

Your new era of politics wasn't started by the Democrats but this new group of fucks who call themselves Republican. Democrats don't have the spine or the power to do the things that righties get away with every day. As we saw with all the subpoenas over the last week, by a bi partisan panel I might add, the law doesn't apply to conservatives.

You said, "Democrats don't have the spine or the power to do the things that righties get away with every day."

McCain and Palin stand there day after day and tell the same stupid lies ("Thanks, but no thanks, Congress, I don't want that bridge to nowhere.") This doesn't take spine. This isn't chutzpah. This is cynicism, mendacity and vile disrespect for the truth.

Americans are supposed to stand for truth, justice and liberty. When Democrats stand by those values they are decried as weak and spineless. This makes no sense.

The Republican party used to stand for something. It has become a corrupt criminal organization whose thugs will do and say anything they can to keep their grip on power. Cheney and Bush just stood there and lied to the nation, and even to people like Dick Armey, when they said Saddam had a suitcase nuke and was going to use it.

After seven years of unrelenting lies and incompetence, this nation simply can't afford another Republican administration. This one has nearly destroyed the entire banking sector by ignoring every warning about the real estate bubble over the last four years.

Imagine the horror of three years of a doddering McCain presidency, followed by a year of a shrill Palin when McCain kicks the bucket.

Face it. These people have no business running the country. It would be an even bigger disaster than Bush.

The main reason Palin has a Yahoo email account was to conduct government business without accountability. They were laboring under the premise that since it wasn't a government account it couldn't be subpoenaed.

Now, explain to me why the governor of Alaska needs to hide what she's doing?

On the face of this, it makes no sense. If there was such a need for secrecy, why put this information out on the public Internet where it can be intercepted in any number of ways?

The answer is, Sarah Palin doesn't want to be held accountable for her actions. She knew she was doing something wrong when she fired the commissioner of public safety over the trooper incident, and she was trying to hide tracks. Incompetently, I might add.

The whole attitude of the Republicans about executive privilege is downright creepy. They tell us that they should have the right to spy on anyone they think is a terrorist without having to get a court order.

Yet when we, the people, want to investigate allegations that several US attorneys were fired because they had refused to use their offices to intimidate voters, they claim executive privilege.

Last I heard the governor and the president worked for the people. How do they rate more rights than we do?

downtown, for every positive article you link about Palin, I'll link 3 negative ones. I'm talking major newspapers and major magazines like Time and Newsweek, not right wing magazines or left wing blogs. Nice logic blk - someones email gets hacked into and it is HER fault!!! Why don't you mention the fact that they found no official business in there, just pictures of family, etc. Don't bother mentioning it because it doesn't jive with the message you are trying to convey. Local elected officials can fire people like the commissioner of public safety any time they want to for no reason whatsoever. They are appointed positions. WAAAWAAA, were being decried as weak and spineless. found a victim for you downtown, it's blk.

blk, I agree. That's what Democrats do stand for but I still think they are spineless for doing absolutely nothing about it.

As I told Mark the other day...what both candidates say on the stump sure sounds great but it is just a matter of them actually getting accomplished what they propose and actually doing something about the problems they all talk about every campaign cycle.

Sheesh, where've you been the last 8 years?

I saw the Charlie Gibson interview. Her answers were moronic.

You tend to get moronic answers to stupid questions.

After seven years of unrelenting lies and incompetence, this nation simply can't afford another Republican administration.

And the 8 years before this administration weren't so great either.

The whole attitude of the Republicans about executive privilege is downright creepy.

How much are you willing to bet that 4 or even 8 years of Democratic leadership rolls back zero of that? Were that it would be different, but it won't.

Look what happens when obamas teleprompter stops working.

Here's another video from 2005

Here is what McCain said in 2006 on the same subject.

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/record.xpd?id=109-s20060525-16&bill=s109-190

So one guy was a head of the curve and another guy took $126k to keep things the way they were. What leadership.

"And the 8 years before this administration weren't so great either."

Yes, the horrible administration that brought us 8 years of unprecedented peace and prosperity was a nightmare for America.

In reality, it was the Republicans, lead by Newt Gingrich did everything in their power to thwart the Clinton administration, including shutting down the government, which lead to the whole Monica Lewinsky debacle. She was an unpaid intern who probably wouldn't have had access to the President if the government had been operating like it should.
And let's not forget that her friend, Linda Tripp was a holdover from the previous administration, and a secretary to Vince Foster, who in his suicide note, stated his frustration at being unable to find the source of the leaks.
Considering the wrath the GOP brought to the workings of government during the Clinton administration it's a wonder that anything got done at all. In my lifetime, the GOP has become the party of dirty tricks, underhanded deals and downright criminal activity, all with a Machiavellian sense of self-righteousness that will not allow for co-operation or compromise.

How the hell can anyone, in good conscience support these villains, unless just sheer contrariness?

Ah, yes, all because the rightful ruler sat on the throne. Goddamit children, grow the fuck up.

Yes there was prosperity - but that isn't because of ANY asshole occupying the White House at the time.

As for PEACE - well, someone DID try to blow up the World Trade Tower. And we hardly created peace all over the world; you do recall the Balkans, yes? How about Rwanda?

I'm no fan of Bush, but when your arguments are this bad, it inspires absolutely zero confidence in the other party.
