Oh, So Sad...

This is bloody priceless.

I have a friend who was an election judge on November 4th. When they opened up the absentee ballots from military bases around the world, including Iraq, the Republican representatives went berserk. Apparently, President Elect Obama (something I try to say at least 10 times a day these days) received many more votes than Senator McCain. And the Republicans couldn't take it.

EEP! BLURP! QUARK! Military loves all Republicans. EEP! SPLAT! All soldiers love only conservatives. EEP! BLURP! SMACK! Poison gas...can't breathe...EEP! ZAP!

Something tells me there's going to be a lot more cognitive dissonance in the next few months. Imagine what will happen if (Gasp!) President Elect Obama actually succeeds at something.

EEP! BLURP! He actually failed. EEP! BLURP! He is evil. Don't believe your eyes. EEP! BLURP! Muslim terrorist EEP! BLURP!

Wonderfully put, Mark! “If” he actually accomplishes something...

Here’s to an Obama administration continuing a long history of voting ‘present’ on the critical issues of our time. Who knows? If enough issues continue to be above his pay grade or he keeps to his sparse attendance in Washington actually working, we may just survive. Ha ha

Wow. Some folks will never be un-Hannitized.

I voted for Obama because we do need change, but appointing many former Clinton people to the Cabinet is not real change to me. I want more experts appointed not politicians!

Speaking of cognitive dissonance.

Juris, do you prefer politicians over problem solvers?

My preference doesn't really matter. The simple fact is politicians are who/what ends up in politics. Funny how that works.

Not in cabinet positions. Finally, the Treasury Secretary looks like a good pic.

I didn't see Colin Powell as a politician. Hillary Clinton- politician.

See the difference?

I didn't see Colin Powell as a politician.

Every general (or admiral) is a politician. Senior officer appointments are not made on merit alone (as junior officer promotions are), but also on Congressional courtship.

I guess you believe in the European technocrat ideal?

By that definition Condi Rice is a problem-solver, not a politician. You still sold on that?

I see Condoleezza Rice as an expert. She has a PhD in International Studies and is an expert on Russia and Eastern Europe. It would have been nice if she had more expertise in the Middle East (she does now).

I do not believe that the European technocrat format shoud replace our Cabinet. Not at all!

I do believe Cabinet members should be experts in their field.

And you are satisfied with the results of Rice in her offices within the Bush Admin? I mean, you agree with the whole Iraq fiasco, and all of the policy Rice has helped promulgate?

I'm surprised by the number of conversations I've been involved in lately with people who voted for Obama and are doubting he can accomplish anything. As with most political discussions, there's allot of grandstanding and taking stances just to prove your understanding of how "things work on the hill", but I haven't even started the honeymoon yet! The ability to affect change springs from optimism, not cynicism. The bigger point for me is why wouldn't we want to believe in a new beginning? Haven't we had our fill of cynical know it alls...? Louise Jeez.
