Wrong Adversary

I'm continually amazed that many folks on the right are still a feared of the gubmint. In their minds, we are getting closer every day to jack booted thugs coming to all our homes and seizing the fruits of our labors. Many think this is already happening (see: taxes). At least they are right about it already happening...and it isn't the government.

Banks Accused of Illegally Breaking Into Homes

The culprit, Ms. Ash soon learned, was not a burglar but her bank. According to a federal lawsuit filed in October by Ms. Ash, Bank of America had wrongfully foreclosed on her house and thrown out her belongings, without alerting Ms. Ash beforehand.

Huh. Would this be another example of a private corporation forcing their way into someone's home? Yes. Yes, it would.

In Texas, for example, Bank of America had the locks changed and the electricity shut off last year at Alan Schroit’s second home in Galveston, according to court papers. Mr. Schroit, who had paid off the house, had stored 75 pounds of salmon and halibut in his refrigerator and freezer, caught during a recent Alaskan fishing vacation.

“Lacking power, the freezer’s contents melted, spoiled and reeking melt water spread through the property and leaked through the flooring into joists and lower areas,” the lawsuit says. The case was settled for an undisclosed amount.

Bank of America had the locks changed? Not the government? Well, they must have used the government as a tool, right?

In Florida, contractors working for Chase Bank used a screwdriver to enter Debra Fischer’s house in Punta Gorda and helped themselves to a laptop, an iPod, a cordless drill, six bottles of wine and a frosty beer, left half-empty on the counter, according to assertions in a lawsuit filed in August. Ms. Fisher was facing foreclosure, but Chase had not yet obtained a court order, her lawyer says.

Nope. Contractors, huh. Where is the government in all of this? Oh yeah, I forgot. Neutered by the conservative movement in this country.

These would be (more) specific examples of a private corporation fucking people over, Not only did they seize Schroit's house but they ruined his food! Now, I'm not an expert but, in addition to food being required for nourishment, was the fish not the "fruit of his hard earned labor?"

Wrong adversary, Tea Partiers. Wrong adversary. But I suppose, in the end, it's OK, though because Bank of America has a lot of money. And we all know that if you have a lot of money, Jesus loves you more and you can do whatever you want.

"but Chase had not yet obtained a court order, her lawyer says."

Why would Evil Corp Inc have to get a court order? To legitimize the foreclosure via the government?

Without government sanction, the contractors were reduced to breaking and entering with a screwdriver.

This has to be willful ignorance on your part if you see this as a law-MAKING corporate action, as opposed to law-breaking individuals.

Try again.

The last couple sentences are just dumb, they don't bear any resemblance to anything anyone says on here. I don't worship bank of America and it makes me question if you really are interested in raising the level of dialogue as you claim.

Oh yeah, your side threw everything you had into an election in WI and maybe barely only eeked out a dead heat in a judicial election? Wow.

My wife finally browsed this site, wondering what I was snorting at whenever I came here. After a couple posts, she asked me, "Is he cadre, or just useful idiot?" Then she read some more and the verdict was, "Useful idiot." And then a couple more, and it was, "Just idiot. Why do you bother?" I had to think about it, and finally settled on "morbid curiosity." :D

Of course he isn't - he is too busy preaching to actually engage in a dialogue.

Besides which, we never say the things we are supposed to say. He can always count on the voices in his head for that - and he seems to like arguing with them more than with us.

If the corporation can force its will without consequences - what on earth is Ms. Fisher suing for? I will bet that no matter how close this was to foreclosure - she is going to end up with that house free and clear. BofA screwed up big time and will pay for that mistake - unlike say if the police had kicked down her door and killed her dog in a bad drug raid. You can't sue them no matter how incompetent they were - look up immunity, qualified and/or sovereign.

Ah, Larry, I see it all clearly now. I'm doing the bidding of secret Marxists (cue maniacal laughter) trying to take over America. As long as she's a critical thinker though, eh? Tell your wife I'm tired of managing her fantasies as well.

Juris, Larry's wife would be yet another "voice in my head.":)

No, Mark, we concluded just the opposite. Rather than even being a useful idiot, you're more of a useless tool. ;-)

Sad but not unpredictable that M would completely miss that.

Yo M - no happy dance about Beck getting canceled? What will you say about that?

I think I have one thing figured out - M tunes in best to the idiot frequency - Beck, Bachmann, Palin (and TPM or DailyKOS). That really resonates with the voices in his head. Anything else just gets lost in the noise.

When they shut down the government, will this blog become static?

I guess since Larry's wife said it, it must be true. Wouldn't that be one definition of appeal to authority?

WAHHHH!!! Mark's right about something. WAHHHH!!! So he's an idiot and I won't honestly debate him and will thus personally attack him. All you idiots had to do was mention to him that if banks employ thousands of people who have families to feed as well.

Teddy, no disrespect intended, but I'm sure I don't understand what you are trying to tell us.

juris imprudent said...

Since you seem to be hard of understanding, I'll repeat myself:

If the corporation can force its will without consequences - what on earth is Ms. Fisher suing for?

Any answers from the preacher or the choir?

Mark Ward said...

I'm not hard of hearing, juris. I simply know where this conversation will lead which is no movement on your part. Until that changes, is there any point in debating this?

>I simply know where this conversation will lead which is no movement on your part.

Can be translated as: I simply have refused to address any of the counterpoints to my poorly thought out corporate force claims, and my ego won't let me change that now.

La la la la, I can't hear you.

The corporation fucked up and will pay. When the govt fucks up - it almost never pays. We should all be more worried about the corporation, right?

The trial ain't over, juris. She hasn't won anything yet. But I think I understand why you guys bitch about frivolous lawsuits now.

rld said...

You don't understand anything son.

Mark Ward said...

Serial, that would be one reason why it's pointless to engage juris on this one. There hasn't even been an outcome yet! Good thought on the frivolous lawsuits, though.

Hap, congrats! You won the argument:)

True. But I'm willing to bet that with the misconduct on the part of BofA [note: I agree they did wrong] - she'll have that house free and clear plus some spare change. As she should. I don't think there is anything frivolous about her lawsuit - the company fucked up and should pay. Nice of you to try to put some more words in my mouth you asshole. I never demand that M conform to some demented fucking stereotype in my head - I ask questions about what he actually says.

Now, the next time a cop busts down a door, and kills a dog, let alone a person by error, please be sure and tell me how much the state pays out as compensation. That is a lawsuit you cannot win because it will get tossed immediately - you have no fucking chance, unlike Ms. Fisher. Is that too tough for you all to grasp?

Larry said...

Yes, it is too much for them to grasp.

Apparently, Larry is right. What a sad little posse of assclowns - unable to continue their argument or admit their error.
