A Sliver of Light

Did I slip into an alternate dimension? Last week Speaker of the House John Boehner, on oil companies.

We're in a time when the federal government's short on revenues. They ought to be paying their fair share.

And now today from budget "guru" Paul Ryan on the oil industry and corporations in general.

We're talking about reforming the safety net, the welfare system, we also want to get rid of corporate welfare.

If they actually follow through, you can color me impressed. Maybe my long drought of not voting for Republicans (1996) will soon come to an end:)

I'll be shocked if they can muster the votes from either side of the aisle to end the depletion allowance. Just as I will be shocked the day we actually end farm subsidies (which also benefit big ag corporations).

I wouldn't get all partisan about it though - both sides of the aisle get plenty of money to preserve the status quo.

Speaking of slivers of light, here some is shed on the leftist anti-science crackpots.

I'm still waiting to hear about the Obama Admin's respect for scientific study of marijuana, as well as the unkept promise about allowing states with medical marijuana to go unmolested by the feds. At the moment, the Admin's policy is utterly indistinguishable from what one would expect under the worst social-con Republican imaginable. Where is that change we were supposed to hope for?
