Planet Earth's Best Pal

Our planet is a very special place. We have many wondrous things here, both natural and man made. We have some extraordinary people on this planet.

But you know who I love? Do you know who really warms my heart and makes me feel special? Do you know who I thank God for everyday?

Iranian President mammoth Ahmadinejad (left). What a super guy!

Last October he said that Israel should be wiped off the map. He was quoting the Ayatollah when he added, "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," according to a quote published by Iran's state news outlet, the Islamic Republic News Agency.

When the world responded angrily, President Ahmadinejad remarked, "They are free to say but their words lack any credit."

A few weeks later he went to say that the holocaust was a myth and that Israel should be moved to Europe or the United States. He expressed doubt that the Nazis actually killed six million Jews and wondered if it was all a ploy by the evil Zionist regime in Israel and America to receive favors with the world.

It's been a long time since Adolph Hitler spoke and I guess he's back. But this time he has nuclear weapons. Super! For those of you who don't know, Iran has broken the seals on the containers in the Natantz nuclear "research" facility and will have the materials to make 4-20 bombs in 2-4 years. Awesome, dude!

I can't wait for the day when a country run by Muslim extremists has the bomb. What a warm and comforting time that will be!!

While we have playing with our dicks in Iraq, accomplishing next to nothing in a conflict that is in no way related to the security of our country, this sad excuse of a human being has been running his fucking mouth all over the joint and I have had it.

President Ahmadinejad, you may recall, was a key figure in the Iranian hostage affair in 1979. Ah, what a special time that was.....an insanely weak, botched rescue attempt followed by a sneaky, under the table deal to trade the hostages for guns and ammo to the Contras (see: Communist Dance Hits of the 80s and More!) Bascially we have had 26 years of inept policy after policy with this country of psychotic and now, aw shucks, I guess we finally have to deal with them.

Or will we? China and Russia are exerting an enormous pressure on us not to do anything because of the oil they get from Iran. Oil, again. Great. Is it just me or is it finally time for our government to:

A. GET A FUCKING CLUE and
B. FIND AN ALTERNATIVE FUEL SOURCE SO WE DON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH MARWAN EL SUCKDITCH ANYMORE? (File under: Not bloody likely with the Bush Oil Inc. running the show)

Holy Hannah, folks, this situation is completely out of control and I am not at all happy with how our current administration is handling it. They don't seem to be doing anything at all really except sending poor old Scott McLlellan out to announce that President Bush denounces President Ahmadinejad's comments actions.

Well, whoopity fucking doo! So do I , bitch. Big news there!

Here's a thought for the Iranian president: Stop threatening to annihilate countries while producing nuclear fuel or the rest of the world will assume control, through force, of YOUR FUCKING COUNTRY, BITCH!!

I am sorry to those folks out there who thought I was a "kook" liberal peacenik just because I have argued against the War in Iraq. My differences with the administration on Iraq have more to do with prioritizing threats and carrying out missions with the smallest amount of ineptitude possible than with being "against war."

Appeasement in the case of Iran will quite simply not work. We basically need to tell them to cease their volatile activities immediately or their life as they know it will be over. No more mullahs talking smack about the USA....no more masturbation parties whilst watching the WTC attacks....no more firebombing magazines run by women.....and, for that matter, no more getting your jollys out of abusing the shit out of women....all of that will be gone. So sorry!!

It's time for this administration to actually back up all their tough talk. In 2002, President Bush called Iran one of the members of the Axis of Evil and yet has done virtually nothing to stop them from pursuing a course that threatens the entire world. We have let Europe "negotiate" with Iran and look where it has gotten us?

A fanatical leader of an ultra psychotic nation with nuclear bombs. Wonderful. What's next? Letting year after year go by without any real effort to capture Osama bin Laden.

Oh, wait a minute........

From what I have read thus far, Iran even has the advantage of the younger Iranian population wanting a secular democracy and hating the mullahs(the powerful yet unpopular stooges who currently run their country)...many of the young people in that country don't care for the strict rules imposed on them by their current leaders but if the US invades, I think many of them might join up with the mullahs to fight the US. The Iranians have had a bad experience the last time US attempted regime change in Iran. Overthrew a popular and democratically elected PM and replaced him with the shah's bloody rule. We could have a massive insurrection with lots of casualties.

Still wrong.

Iraqi civilians aren't rising up in mass against the US in Iraq. Besides, my original statement was just a prediction.

We all know Al Queda is in Iraq. Iranians are Shiite and Osama is Sunni...big difference in the fact that the Iranians don't really like Osama.

Hell I'm just happy a libs are actually taking a stand. As we heard last night...

"Hindsight is not wisdom" and "Second guessing is not a strategy". DOH! That had to hurt.

Besides, have you all consulted the UN? What does France and Germany think? Is Iran an "imminent threat"? What do the polls say? These are all things that must be sorted out before taking any action right?

What's the worry? They don't have the bomb yet do they? This is all just a bunch of hooha over uranium enrichment. Besides, Iran says they have the sovern right to develop their own energy source. Hey, they do don't they? They won't develop WMD, I just know it. They have like, a zillion years of oil, but, why not develop nuclear power?

No, we need diplomacy. We need to rally the United Nations to set and enforce strict rules by which Iran conducts nuclear research. We need to also monitor this research with inspectors who are given full access to all facilities. Most importantly, we must wait until Iran actually has a nuclear, I mean, nucular bomb before we react. After all, how would it look to the world if we invaded, and we were wrong! No, trust me, this would work. The allies of this diplomacy would stick by us, the middle east would concur, and if they step out of line, we could slap some really nasty sancions on them. Like oil for food, or sumthin.

This time, let's make sure they have the weapon first. No, wait, this time, let's make sure they USE the weapon first - and it has to be on our soil as well. This time, let's be reactive. Don't bother looking for intelligence - we don't want to know cause we don't need to be responsible for interpreting it - or using it for political gain.

Then, after they bomb us, let's negotiate, not retaliate. We need to stop putting our sons and daughters into harm's way - peace! and charity! Iran has the right to say and do whatever it feels. Yea sure, they come accross as a bit radical, and they would love to kill any American they get their hands on, but hey, they are on the other side of the world - how can they really harm us? After all, we are a "hollow superpower." And they are right - least that's the impression I get most every day from the press. Hindsight is wisdom after all.

I mean, look at us in Iraq. What a mess. The world's most powerful army getting their ass' kicked by radical psychopaths - excuse me - insurgents. I mean two thousand, five hundred and forty five dead! In almost three years of occupation! Gasp! And nothing positive to show for it. Cept maybe Haliburton getting rich, and Bushie getting rich - but that's it! Least that's what I'm being told.

No, not this time! We must talk this time. And march, and protest, and gather in large groups and beat our breasts and nash our teeth, till at least some mentally challenged suicide bomber detonates a bomb belt blowing the head off that sad Sheehan gal and her posse.

Oh, and the same goes for North Korea too. In their case, let's just keep paying them off.

I love ya M'Delphia, but, threatning to turn Iranian sand to glass rings a bit hollow to me. It's pretty much a given that many in this country haven't the stomach for war - and all of it's uncertainties and ugliness. And here we go again, Europe and China and Russia are all falling in line, behind us of course. No, I say this time, let them handle it, cause last time I checked, it was China and Russia drinking from Iran's oil teet.

Seattle in an upset.

I think any threats of war towards Iran are foolish at best. Any attempt at a military solution to this problem is going to further the divide between the Middle East and the West. So what… you say? Here’s what.

The radicals that make up terrorist groups are former members of the general population. They are not an army as we in the First World conceive of it. By continuing to alienate these uneducated volatile people, we continue to help build a corps that will one day deliver a bomb to our soil. The beauty of any terrorist group or action is the simplicity and the anonymity that is afforded such a group. They wear no uniform or sash or hat nor do they sport secret tattoos. They can’t be identified in any simplistic way and therefore move with freedom and impunity through borders. If they have any brains at all, they have long ago ceased and desisted using cell phones or conventional phone lines and do their communication the good old fashioned way…through the mail or through 3rd parties or in person. To top it all off, kill one or a dozen or the head of the organization, a new head sprouts on the many-headed hydra. It is the nature of the beast, because the ROOT CAUSE of the problem continues to exist.

Now, what about this ROOT CAUSE? What could it be? Ahhh, that’s right… it is our democratic system, our freedom and Britney Spears belly button. It couldn’t possibly be our sponsorship of corporate greed (a greed that spreads itself into the Middle East in the form of arms sales to those who will buy, to furthering oil barons interests in the area and supporting petty dictators), our overdependence on oil and our need to meddle in the affairs of people, could it? Like it or not, our dealings with countries in this region have played to our short-term advantage with little or no foresight to the future of the people in the region and/or our own safety. We have done things in dishonorable ways that played to our advantage or a friends advantage, with the hope that it wouldn’t come back and bite us in the ass. Well, guess what, it didn’t all pay off. Now, there will be those that read this and say that I focus on the bad stuff without consideration of the good things we have done. That may in part be true, but I would argue that the good things have been overshadowed by the bad things. I don’t want to keep the bad things undefined, so here are a couple of nuggets to consider. First, we have supported Israel unconditionally for the most part. We have given them money and arms and both public and private support. This is not a bad thing for Israel and probably not for us either, except for the fact that the creation of Israel is a festering wound for most people in the Middle East, the majority would be my guess. We have supplied the Israelis with weapons of mass destruction (not fictitious ones either) as well as other arms and bombs that have been applied with extreme prejudice, to both the innocent and not-so-innocent of the region. We have supported revolution and then let people slug it out on their own to be eventually put down in very unpleasant ways. We have ignored pleas from people who wanted democracy and our support (the Kurds come to mind). The Kurds like us for the most part, or at least one of the 2 major factions does. We helped create Saddam and we were behind the Shah. So, there you have one butcher and one corrupt leader. At the very best, our policies have been inconsistent and at the worst, they have been dishonest and destructive (who was that provided Saddam with the chemical weapons that were used against the Kurds…yes folks, us…our own oversight committees have confirmed this…think it is the General Accounting Service). We have played people against each other and now the net result is a mess of people who don’t trust or like us. That is the foundation for terrorism. Islam plays a role of course too, but not because they are insane, because it is being used as a mechanism to encourage terrorists to commit themselves body and soul to whatever endeavor is at hand. It would take confirmed belief in an afterlife paradise for me to blow myself up.

This digresses slightly from Mark’s theme of Iran, but here is something else to consider. Iran is a relatively hollow country. They are not known for their military prowess, they have next to nothing for resources EXCEPT oil. If you were a little country that had been branded a member of the Axis of Evil by the only remaining super power in the world, what would you do to protect yourself? If it were me, I would convince the world that I am a crazy son-of-a-bitch that will unleash the power of the atom at the hint of military action so that no one dare mess with me. Like the Colt pistol was the great equalizer in the West, nuclear weapons make a small and insignificant country, a player in world politics. Just ask Pakistan.

As far as that goes, if we are so interested in nuclear proliferation, why was no action taken against Pakistan as they delivered technology to other countries (North Korea comes to mind)? A few terse words and disapproving shake of the head…now that is consistent policy at its best! “But they are vital to our search for Bin Laden” Yes…so vital that we blow up their villages (without success in getting the target we were after) and they had NO KNOWLEDGE that it was going to happen. They are so vital that we STILL have not gotten Bin Laden. What a load of crap.

North Korea is another one…another mess waiting to be cleaned up. Or avoided by our current administration.

Here is the answer that some of you will be looking for. Make our policies consistent. Pull out our troops from the region. Eliminate the need for oil. Apollo-style program for independence from oil. Stop interfering with other peoples business in the region. They can sort it out themselves. Start protecting our country in earnest, not lip service and shades of orange that mean nothing. Stop being the self-appointed distributor of morals, values and ways of life. The answers are there for a good foreign policy, they just have to be implemented without concern for oil, money or how we can make others be like us.

This is neither a Republican or Democratic solution. Those terms are irrelevant, they are used to further divide people in this country so that big companies can continue to do as they have, i.e. what they please.

Some good points here but you are way off on the bombing villagers thing.

While Al Zawahari was not at the intended target, several Al Qaeda memebers were there and I can bet you my CD collection it wasn't for Sunday dinner. The spin that was that is was innocent villagers was just that: SPIN. Nothing like stirring up some folks in that region.

We need to continue these sort of strikes if we have any hope of nailing Bin Laden and Al Zawahari, who in my mind is more important than Bin Laden. We should be focusing more on this region and less on Iraq.

“The beauty of any terrorist group or action is the simplicity and the anonymity that is afforded such a group”.

Not so much anymore. First, look at the recent victory for Hamas. One part of me thinks that it is a sad day for humanity when a people choose to elect people who support suicide bombers as their leaders. But another part of me thinks that clarity is the prerequisite to real progress, the landslide victory of the terrorist organization Hamas in Palestine is a good thing in my book because there will be no more excuses when Hamas fires rockets on Israel and launches suicide attacks against civilian targets. Until this latest election, the excuse was always that no one entity was ever directly responsible for anything and they could not rein in their "militants". Now the "militants" are the ruling party. It proves that the great majority of palestinians want Israel destroyed. This vote reveals the falsity pushed by PC idiots that palestinian terror is only supported by a small minority of the palestinian population. Like all parties out of power, Hamas could afford in days past to have it both ways. Its leaders didn't have to explain their tactics or ultimate goals. They weren't accountable to voters or to anyone else. But now they're in charge and they will be accountable. "Insurgent Hamas" could freely criticize Fatah and promise the "utopian" destruction of Israel. "Government Hamas," however, must put up or shut up.

Second, look at those pieces of shit walking in the streets of London holding signs that say “Freedom go to hell”, “Slay those who insult Islam”, “Butcher those who mock Islam”, “Be prepared for the REAL holocaust”, “Whoever insults a prophet – kill him”, and so forth. Looted and burned embassies and basically threatened the entire population of many European countries – lovely. So no – they aren’t anonymous anymore. If you act like an animal you should be treated like one – I wouldn’t have lost a seconds sleep if someone would have offed those idiots who burned down embassies or protested in the streets of Europe with those signs. Does the slaughter of innocent people in many parts of the world in the name of Allah offend muslims? Is that worthy of protest? Apparantly not. No, cartoons published in a newspaper - that's what's offending them. Not to mention, of course, the kinds of slurs against Christians and jews that are regularly spread abroad in the Arab world by the mass media and by these imams. I’ve seen cartoons showing a man with a beard, in a bed, smoking a cigarette while saying to a little girl lying next to him “Put that in your diary Anne” (referring to the diary of Anne Frank).

John, I’ll grant you that the whole corporate greed argument as well as the whole Israel argument you have put forth are indeed reasons they don’t like us but those items don’t explain to me Al Quedas bombings in Bali, Spain, London, Australia, Russia, and so on.

I’m glad they are showing themselves for what they are. Perhaps Europe will learn their lesson sooner rather than later because up until now, European leaders regularly confused willfull ignorance with tolerance.

I think both Markadelphia and Crabmaster have good points in their last posts. To clarify, I think that there is blowback from any military operation carried out at a distance. There is some precision when it comes to laser guided bombs and missiles, but only when compared to the good ol'days of WWII, Korea and Vietnam when bombs fell only approximately where they were dropped. They still explode, they still kill others beside their intended targets. If someone dropped a bomb on a restaurant or house here in the states that was chock full o' terrorists, but it still killed half a dozen or a dozen other people, there would be concern. I understand the balance between eliminating terrorists and the common good, but the "we have to break a few eggs to make an omelet" sentiment can go too far. The process of blowback has killed hundreds if not thousands of people in that region and it is the repeated process that continues to alienate.

I agree 100% on the Hamas thing. It will be good to put these people in some kind of position where they have responsibilities and obligations to govern as opposed to commit acts of rebellion. The future will be interesting.

As for the religion thing and the mocking of the prophet...I personnally dont see the humor or the need for cartoons of that nature, but that being said, I can't condone violence to protest it. In some kind of balanced perspective, I would say that we (USA) do not take our religious beliefs as serious as many Muslims do. To many muslims it is a BIG deal. The fact that muslims have died (in misguided efforts that I don't condone)in the name of Islam certainly suggests it is a big deal. I can't think of the last time a Christian openly died for their beliefs in that kind of setting. The whole thing reminds me of a scene in The Exorcist when the statue of Mary is desecrated with bare breasts and a penis. I am not Christian, yet I found that offensive and it stuck in my mind. I believe that certain things should be left off the table for comedic purposes.

Just my thoughts. I see the spin in the articles and broadcasts, but the point of bringing the village bombing up was that the Pakistanies did not know it was coming...they are marginal participants in the hunt for Bin Laden, probably because the vast majority of people in Pakistan support Bin Laden's platform.
