Not Even Hiding it Anymore

At a recent town hall meeting, Northern California US Rep. Wally Herger fielded a comment from one of his constituents.

“I am a proud right wing terrorist,” he declared to cheers.

And Congressmen Herger's response?

“Amen, God bless you,” Herger said with a broad smile. “There is a great American.”

And people are giving me shit about comparing the right to Al Qaeda...

Of course, in this administration I don't think it would ever happen but, wouldn't it be wise to have some DHS agents in these town hall meetings to pull these morons aside for a little...questioning? Maybe even a background investigation and some cautionary surveillance?

As for the Congressman's response, one of his lackeys tried to whitewash his answer by saying he was being sarcastic or something.

Right-wing extremism is real, and frightening. Anyone else but me ever notice that it's never one of us on the left that do the shootings or bombings? I think the answer is, in our society at least, those of us on the left tend to have both hearts and minds. We tend to be better educated and informed. We are less inclined towards hyperbole. We don't latch onto narrow-minded, myopic viewpoints. We rely on reason, discourse and co-operation, not fearful fantasy. In short, we don't see the opposition as the enemy.

This is why I'm no longer a conservative. As I grew older, I grew a heart and a mind. I came to the realization that those with opposing viewpoints are still people. Human beings with lives, families, and friends. We may disagree, but that does not mean that we're enemies.

I'd like to see this self-styled "right-wing terrorist" sentenced to four years in a ...wait for it, liberal arts college. Make him take English lit classes, and women's and African American studies classes. Psych 101 and tech theater. Western and Eastern philosophy and anthropology courses. In short, EDUCATE these morons before they kill someone.

Right wing, left wing -- these have nothing to do with terrorism. Extremists come from any political persuasion. There were were all sorts of left-wing terrorists in the sixties and seventies. They had much more in common with modern conservatives than they have with modern liberals.

Anyone who starts a sentence with "I will do anything to..." and is serious about it cannot be trusted.

Jaysus H. Christ on a pogo stick, are you all so fucking tone deaf that you don't catch sarcasm?

M, you are starting to sound like a truther.

But Juris, they are hardened internet political warriors. This is serious business. Even when their candidates win elections, they're still as pissed off as they ever have been.

Nice characterization last but a little off the mark (no pun intended).

Juris, the remark was not sarcastic. He meant it.

I knew one of you would come out of the woodwork once the insults started flying. Kudos. Obamacare is dead. Time to get back to the insults.

I wouldn't be so quick to run the post mortem yet. I will answer your comment, though, last. Mark's point (via Bill Maher) has now been proven true. Even though the Democrats won, that doesn't mean liberals won. The Dems are the new Republicans and the Republicans are so far right that who knows what they are?

Health care may not be passed but it will be because the Democrats are more conservative than they have ever been.

Wrong. It may not pass because it is heading so far left that even the moderate left isn't comfortable with it. You point is only valid if you shift your perspective from current center and move quite a bit left as the starting point. Disingenuous at best.

Let's see... the Democrat Party has decided, and announced via its top leadership, that anyone who dares question the bill at all, anyone who even thinks you should read it before you pass it, is "Un-American", "terrorist", "paranoid", etc.

Given how the ruling party has chosen to define those terms, I gotta agree with the points made. No, it's not sarcasm. It's genuine pride. If daring to question a (at best) badly flawed bill at all makes me a terrorist, then yeah, I'm a proud terrorist.

It's more than a little creepy that some of you folks find that worrisome.

Thanks Dan. You get a cookie. You were also notably absent during any discussion of actual policy on here. I guess we're just supposed to assume you know all about the healthcare bill.

Insult all you want - you have a veto proof majority and the three big pieces of legislation you have to show for it are a "stimulus" bill that didn't stimulate anything (you all read the details of the bill I posted on here and couldn't be tasked to even comment on it yourselves), a cap and trade bill that isn't going to get out of the senate and a dead health care bill. Oh I'm sure some version of healthcare reform will be passed...without several key provisions that dems wanted.

1. Bottom line is Obama didn't devote much time to defending the specific provisions of his health care bill. Rather, he insisted that the present health care system is intolerable and that "doing nothing is not an option". The specifics are out there, and supporters are having a tough time defending the specifics.

2. It's also evident that the voters aren't buying the Democrats claim that their trillion-dollar plan can be paid for by "the rich," with everyone else sponging off those with higher incomes (I threw the word Sponging in there to give you all something to respond to).

3. Democrats are losing the health care debate, and losing it badly (and you all know it which is why you are all in full insult mode).

4. People don't like the government encouraging end-of-life counseling. People don’t want government involvement in a process they consider a private matter involving the patient, the family, and their doctor.

5. Time to abandon the whole idea of Obamacare as cost-cutting. It was Obama’s original rationale for creating a whole new entitlement at a time of a sinking economy and a bankrupt Treasury. People aren't buying it.

6. Drop the idea of government committees determining "best practices". That's what Comparative Effectiveness Research does that was in the stimulus bill that I wrote about on here. There are thousands of medical journal review articles that already do just that.

7. Prediction - a healthcare bill will be passed....without a public option. heehee

8. You don’t need to be as educated as Dan to see that a claim to expand coverage while at the same time reducing costs is quite deceptive.

Nice veto-proof majority you got there. Sitting back, criticizing everything the party in power does, and expecting results is kind of easy.
