Yet Another Game Changer

I'm going to be talking about this one for the next few days. This is a long video (1 hour and 7 minutes) so take your time with it.

Some initial thoughts....has anyone ever seen another president do this before? I'm not trying to be snarky...I honestly don't know or don't recall.

The first line bit that jumps out at me....

When asked about the later health care conferences not being televised, President Obama said "It’s a legitimate criticism. So on that one, I take responsibility.”

Funny, though. Isn't that actually the fault of congressional leaders? Last time I checked he ran the executive branch.

last time i checked, congress writes the budgets, not the president. that means the deficit obama constantly reminds us he inherited were created by democrats (since 2006).

Pardon the lengthy cut and paste snippets, but I think I've identified a trend. I knew there was a reason why a conservative would think the SotU speech was a stand up double.

undo damage that was a long time in the making

The problems we inherited were far worse than most inside and out of government had expected; the recession was deeper than most inside and out of government had predicted. Curing those problems has taken more time and a higher toll than any of us wanted. Unemployment is far too high. Projected Federal spending—if government refuses to tighten its own belt-will also be far too high and could weaken and shorten the economic recovery now underway.

concentrate on the long-range, bipartisan responsibilities of government, not the short-range or short-term temptations of partisan politics.

I will recommend a Federal spending freeze.....that's far less than many American families have had to do in these difficult times.

... increases the openness of our trading system and is fairer to America's farmers and workers in the world marketplace. We must have adequate export financing to ... get more of our products into foreign markets... promote free trade and the increased flow of American goods, services, and investments

We must keep that edge, and to do so we need to begin renewing the basics—starting with our educational system. While we grew complacent, others have acted

We will not tolerate wage discrimination based on sex

The [Civil Rights] Commission is an important part of the ongoing struggle for justice in America

In the coming year, we will also act to improve the quality of life for Americans by curbing the skyrocketing cost of health care that is becoming an unbearable financial burden for so many

We must also recognize that our own economic well-being is inextricably linked to the world economy.

Millions of our neighbors are without work. It is up to us to see they aren't without hope.
But we must and can give them good reason to be hopeful.
We must offer both short-term help and long-term hope for our unemployed.
I hope we can work together on this.
I hope we can work together as we did last year....
we're already witnessing reason for great hope

For our part, we're vigorously pursuing arms reduction negotiations with the Soviet Union.
