The Corporate Takeover in Wisconsin

Tucked away on page 24 of the bill to strip some government employee unions (the ones that didn't support Walker's election) of collective bargaining rights is an interesting provision. It allows the state of Wisconsin to sell power plants without a competitive bidding process to whomever the department feels like, defining "public interest" as whatever the governor's lackey department head says it is.

Now, who would be interested in buying power plants in Wisconsin? Could it be the Koch brothers, who bought Governor Walker's election?

Why does corporate America always have its hand out, begging for government money and special deals? Why does every pro football team in the country need the government to build their stadiums for them? Why do oil companies need special tax breaks for finding new oil when the price of oil is so high and they're making money hand over fist? Why do conservatives love "privatization," where the government does all the heavy lifting (building freeways that become private tollways, privatized prisons in North Carolina, the state office buildings in Arizona, the power plants in Wisconsin), and then companies move in and take all the profit?

And then when corporations have obligations they no longer feel like living up to, they just declare bankruptcy and get out of jail free. Which several airlines did, foisting their employee pension obligations off on the federal government.

The shakedown of America by the financiers of the Tea Party has begun. The real agenda is now laid bare. They bought their elected officials; it's time to cash in.

Well, you supported the mammoth health care bill that contained the phrase "The secretary shall determine, " way too many times. You wanted governemnt to get this much power, now the other guys are in there and are using that power you fought for against you. You didn't consider that, now you are.

One small problem with your theory, rld, is that the government is actually ceding power not ensuring that every one gets an equal shot at building a power plant.

The item in the bill of which Nikto speaks is not surprising to me. We're going to see a lot more of it just as we will see mouth foaming supporters of similar bills while the Kochs laugh their fucking asses off at how some of the people they are fucking over every day are very actively working to support their Bircher vision.

Do you even know what power plants the state of Wisconsin owns and operates, and who they serve?

Which unions supported Walker's election?

I already know you're either woefully ignorant or just lying about the bill stripping government employee unions of collective bargaining rights, so I don't see any reason to think you're any more accurate in yoour other statements.

Larry, I would refer you to John Waxey's post as he is a primary source in this issue. And it's not a matter of believing, it's an issue of facts. So, if you dispute the facts as presented here by Nikto, do so.

It's nicely ironic to watch this being defended by the guy who supported Obama...

...when he threw bankruptcy law in the shitter so he could give a sweetheart deal to the UAW.

...when he insists on spending taxpayer money on high speed rail, the primary beneficiary of which is GE.

...when he insists on not allowing any alternatives to the current F35 engine, the primary beneficiary of which is GE.

And who is the only advisor Obama has with any business experience whatever? Why it's Jeffrey Immelt, former CEO of GE.

Well isn't that conveeenient.

In other words, you don't have a clue, right, Mark? Because Waxey's post didn't have the answers to my questions, either.

Government employee unions, especially in a non-right-to-work state, are little more than a form of legalized corruption and vote-buying.

Truther, birther, chemtrails and Koch-suckers. Nothing like a cheap, cheesy conspiracy theory to expose the utter poverty of intellect and latent desire to believe in God-like forces controlling the world.

of course YOUR elected officials are never bought nikto - its always the other side. We understand by now.

One more question for Nikto and/or Mark: how much money did the terrible, evil, pro-drug-legalization, pro-gay-marriage Koch brothers contribute to Walker's campaign?

Not that I'll get any more of an answer about which unions supported Walker. I suspect it's because if they bothered to research it, they'll discover that they've been spouting BS all along.

Mark Ward said...

I think it was around 46K which might not seem like a lot nationally but at a state level it sure is.

You also need to think big picture. Are you going to be a good DEA agent if you know you have a zillion dollar a year job waiting for you as a drug dealer when you leave public office? Essentially, that's what politics has become for nearly all Republican and even some Democrats. Walker is waiting for his real payoff after he passes this bill and the Kochs get to build their power plant in WI without any competition.

And sure there were unions that supported Walker. The question is (for a critical thinker like you) which ones and why?

Larry said...

Compared to the literal millions the unions spent, that $43k is laughable, you know.

Since you refused to answer my reasonable questionable about which unions supported Walker, probably because your left-wing sources that you faithfully parrot (no critical thinking going on there!) left out info they didn't think you needed to know, that out of 314 fire and police union locals and state organizations, 3 Milwaukee locals and one state org for state police endorsed walker (and later unendorsed him).

If he was paying off his supporters, why not reward the 4 organizations that supported him, and punish the 310 others? Or could it be simply a matter of principle, that those representing people who put their lives on the line for others maybe need a better deal than the DMV clerk or kindergarten teacher.

Now, Marxy, what about these power stations. WHICH ONES are we talking about? Especially since Koch Industries has said they have no interest in any of them?

"nearly all Republican and even some Democrats"

Is this a "douche" comment? It certainly is stupid... maybe not douche-worthy though....

Mark Ward said...

Yes, Larry and why did those unions support him during the election? I say that now because that has changed.

And your link is half true btw.

Start thinking bigger and you'll get to where the answers are. I'm not sure if that's possible given your clear disdain for public employees.

Larry said...

4 out of 314 supported him. Do you honestly believe he's "rewarding" the 310 who opposed him, and contributed to his opponent?

Get real. I don't know why 4 out of 314 fire and police locals supported him, I'm just surprised it wasn't 0 out of 314.

But let's not pretend, either, that firefighters and police are just the same public employees as teachers, road crews and garbage collectors. They do face some different risks and challenges, and in many places (not sure about Wisconsin) they are not allowed to strike.

I don't have disdain for all public workers. Except for the voices in your head, I don't know where you got that idea. I do believe that public employee unions are a BAD idea (like your hero FDR), and totally unnecessary. Civil service protections should be enough. If you don't like it, go work somewhere else. It's a free country.

Larry said...

They bought their elected officials; it's time to cash in.

You realize that applies quite nicely to the public sector unions the Democratic Party, who are virtually joined at the hip? When the Dems were in power, the public employee unions (who overwhelmingly contribute to and vote for Democrats) certainly got some sweet, sweet deals for themselves.

"Start thinking bigger and you'll get to where the answers are."

My absolute favorite Marxy excuse for not knowing how to respond.

#11 The "You're Not Smart Enough For Me To Converse With" response. Found for the first time in this thread from December '09

My favorite response from people with your mindset is "No, I don't want to think bigger. I want to be willfully ignorant." Stop thinking that other people think the way you do and dedicate some time to reflection, numbnuts. That's all Mark is saying. He's not accusing you of being stupid. He's trying to get you to think!

Abandon logic! Abandon rationality! Abandon common sense! Then you too, can ascend to the same level as preacher Mark!

Not to mention, the Koch's $43k (not $46k) amounted to 1/10 of 1% of the money spent in the Wisconsin campaign. Wow. Talk about underwhelming, Mark.
