The Lowest of the Low

Our federal government spends money on all sorts of things that are beneficial. Here is one of them.

Shutdown Denies Death and Burial Benefits to Families of 4 Dead Soldiers

The fault for this lies directly with the Republicans and their current adolescent temper tantrum about spending....spending, I might add, they already approved! This example is one of many and very illustrative about how the lack of federal spending has a very real affect on people's lives. This would be why I continually try to remind people that the federal government does all sorts of good things that people fail to note through their continued complaints about it.

Congress did pass appropriations that were intended to cover everything. The president even signed it into law. Then the Executive branch (that's Obama's domain) deliberately chose to read that law in a way that harmed the grieving.

Charity steps in to pay military survivor benefits during shutdown as House votes to reinstate, again

“The Department of Defense’s refusal to pay the death gratuity or burial benefit is inexcusable,” said Chairman of the House Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee Rep. Joe Wilson (R., S.C.).

“The grieving families of our service members who have paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our country deserve these benefits,” he said in a statement. “It was Congress’ intent when we passed the ‘Pay Our Military Act’ that these benefits be provided without question to our military families.”

Wilson said the failure to make the payments “confirms that the administration is trying to inflict as much pain as possible on our nation’s most vulnerable people during the government shutdown.”…

The same twisted reading also applies to pay for chaplains who were willing to perform their services voluntarily, but we're told they would be arrested if they did so. That is all your petulant, childish president StompyFoot, not Republicans.

The mayor of Washington D.C. knows where the blame really lies.
