Well Done, Sir!

This is my state representative, Steve Simon. I have never been prouder of an elected official in my life. Sexuality and sexual orientation are indeed gifts from God. VERY well done, Steve!

Really? Let's see what God (you know, that Bible thing…) has to say on the matter:

"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them."
(Romans 1:18-32)

Perversion is a gift from God? Not according to this. It's more like enough rope to hang themselves with because they're absolutely hell bent on doing so. (Yes that's intentional wording.)

Yes, Sexuality within its proper context (one man, one woman, within marriage, for life) is a gift from God. Distortions of that gift are NOT from God.

I guess this is an inevitable backlash to Westboro. Y'all have a good time arguing about your imaginary friend in the sky.

Beats believing that nothing created everything.

Yet, you didn't answer Mr. Simon's question, anon. How many more does He have to create before we accept that he wants them around?

In addition, these words are Paul, not Jesus. Not God. You have to look at the historical context of Paul as well as the times. Sex was viewed in a much different way then compared to today. Obviously, you don't think this but ask yourself how your view differs from that of the conservative Muslim with his fear/objectification of women and intense homophobia. It seems to me they aren't much different.

The other thing to consider is how this passage relates to Hebrews 8:12. He will forgive our wickedness and remember our sins no more. Coming after Romans, this puts your point in a different perspective, no? That's assuming that it's even valid as a starter...

I'll grant you that buggering little boys is a perversion-even criminal-but Neil and Alan owning a B and B in a committed and loving relationship with an adopted son from Africa is not perverted nor criminal. Nor "unholy." Men lying with men was a whole lot different in the 1st century.

Of course, all of this doesn't address your hypocrisy. I thought it was wrong for the government to make laws forcing people to live their lives in a certain way.

This guy is the best, most measured and sensible in speaking of any elected official I may have ever seen.

As for quoting the Bible, the Bible was written by men. Men tend to do things to empower themselves, even if it means lying. To speak up for others is a true sign of moral strength.

As for conservatism, I thought that was about the Gov't NOT getting in the way. Why is it the Gov't must get out of the way of business, but in the way of people's lives? If you are going to refer to the Bible, what about Jesus' contempt for bankers? They are an excepted part of society now. Would not Jesus have a huge problem with ANYONE charging interest?

Who do adult consenting homosexuals actually hurt any more than adult consenting heterosexuals? I suspect it's about even.

Oh, same poster here, FTR, I am heterosexual, 100%. I have hurt women - not violently - as have most all of us.

So a comforting fairy tale is better than an unpleasant reality.

Got it. You and M have a lot in common.

Abe said what said...

"Jephthah made a vow to the Lord. 'If you deliver the Ammonites into my power,' he said, 'whoever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me when I return in triumph from the Ammonites shall belong to the Lord. I shall offer him up as a holocaust.' ... When Jephthah returned to his house in Mizpah, it was his daughter who came forth, playing the tambourines and dancing. She was an only child: he had neither son nor daughter besides her. When he saw her, he rent his garments and said, 'Alas, daughter, you have struck me down and brought calamity upon me. For I have made a vow to the Lord and I cannot retract'." (Judges 11:30-1, 34-5)

Ummm... yeah.... 'fuck you god' is what I'd say if I was Jephthah.

Any other parents here? Sound like a loving God to you?
