Promised and Delivered

As I write this, we have just learned that the president will shortly address the nation after he has made a surprise trip to Afghanistan and signed a long term agreement with Hamad Karzai, president of Afghanistan, regarding US involvement in that country.

He took the time to address the troops  and thanked them for their service to our country, leaving little doubt that on the issues of national security and foreign policy, his record has been stellar.

As promised, he turned our attention away from Iraq and towards an area of the world that has been a hotbed of international terrorism. On his watch, Al Qaeda has largely been decimated. Their ability to carry out significant, 9-11 style attacks, has largely eroded thanks to the president's efforts in this region of the world. bin Laden and Al-Awlaki aside, the increased drone attacks have taken out scores of Al Qaeda senior leadership. In short, we are indeed safer at home.

But his foreign policy cred doesn't end there. He signed a nuclear arms treaty with Russia, enacted tougher sanctions against Iran, shown no hesitation in dealing with Somali pirates, and sent 2,000 marines to Australia to counter rising Chinese influence in the region.

More importantly, he has improved the United States standing in the world which, in today's increasingly changing and competitive global market, goes quite a long way. One of the main reasons I voted for and support the president was because of his promised and delivered foreign policy.

As I predicted, he has not disappointed. Well done sir!

The only problem is, you would say this regardless of what Obama said or delivered.

You are an uncritical fanboy.

On the whole, I say he's done a good job on foreign policy. I admit to having some trepidation when he first came into office due to his lack of experience but his actions have shown him to be more than capable.

He has been particularly adept at handling Iran. Obviously, we can't haul off and bomb them but the lighter sanctions weren't working either. I think the latest round of sanctions may be the straw that broke the camel's back. As isolated as they are financially from the world, it's going to be hard for them in any sort of long term economic environment.

Eric - we had that same discussion several years ago about Iraq. If you support sanctions you will end up supporting war when the sanctions fail. The concept of not fucking with every other country in the world just never seems to cross the mind of a proggy or neo-con.

Thank you Mr. President for getting our troops out of yet another country. I hope they retire from the military in perfect health, and are not replaced.

US troops are not policemen.

I don't hate policemen, I just feel better when they aren't around.

Sorry, juris, but I don't really see the ouch. The first line gives the president credit for making the decision. Further, this is an opinion piece written by an ex-Bush guy. If I posted an opinion piece by an Obama guy in the CIA saying what a great job he's doing, would that hold the same weight as this one? I doubt it. Better yet, what if I posted a link from Gary Bernsten, author of Jawbreaker, and related his take on the Bush Administration and how they handled Al Qaeda?

But please, do continue with your nyah nyah nyahs

So, how is the above different from what you put up?

Well hell,

This whole blog is an opinion piece by a you - that doesn't hold a lot of weight either.

A "Bush guy"? How the fuck do you figure that. The man was a 30+ year veteran of the CIA. He was a career guy - not some political hack for the Admin. He is by your definition an unimpeachable source.

As for the "ouch" - it contradicted the Great Grandstander. Funny how much you hated Bush for doing that kind of thing - but when it comes to your guy, well you just can't get enough. You keep thinking I was in favor of Bush - no matter how many times I pointed out his multitudinous flaws. More M-think: I don't agree with you so I must be everything you oppose. Just pathetic.
