FEMA FOLLIES

Last week, I received the following email from one of my uncles.

Hey Mark,

Did you hear that FEMA did a short notice 'mock' press conference with
FEMA employees asking canned questions of the FEMA leadership regarding
their 'most excellent' response to the wildfires v. katrina....they
didn't let the press know until 15 minutes before, so offered a "listen
only" teleconference to the press and then asked their staged
questions..."nice job Brownie!'

Further research turned up the videos below this post. The first is when they broke in live with the "press conference" and the second video is the aftermath.

And very typical of how things are run these days. Y'know, Dana Parino cracks me up. They used to feed Bush questions all the time back in 2002-2004.

…not how I’d hope it would work out, but the information seemed genuine and at least they offerred an explanation and an apology. (An apology I’m sure none of you will accept, so it’s kind’ve pointless.) Were the questions too soft? Probably. Kind’ve like Helen Thomas’s kid gloves with Bill Clinton vs her rudeness with Republicans.

…Off topic…

Disclaimer: Ok, I didn’t watch the last Democrat debate, nor any debates so far. But I ‘ve read a bit on all of them. As Clinton is the leader, I found it interesting how Tim Russert, certainly no conservative, went after her, and the other candidates rightly followed suit. Anyway, here’s an article by one of my favorite columnists, Jonah Goldberg, which carries on with that theme by simulating some excellent questions for her that would best be characterized as a right cross to the chin.

Prelude…“At the recent Democratic debate in Philadelphia, she was asked whether she supports New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer’s plan to give illegal immigrants driver’s licenses. Her response can be summarized as: “Yes, no, maybe, sorta, kinda; Hey, look over there!”

Example:
“After the Philadelphia debate, your campaign tried to explain away your lackluster performance by implying your male competitors were unfairly “piling on” because you’re a woman. Do you really think sexism is an issue here? Which of your Democratic opponents are the most sexist? Will you play this card with foreign leaders if you run into trouble as commander-in-chief?”

And I particularly liked…
“You’ve repeatedly denounced Halliburton’s “no-bid contracts.” Did you object when the Clinton administration awarded a similar non-competitive contract to Halliburton for reconstruction work in the former Yugoslavia? If not, why not? If so, why didn’t your husband listen?”

Certainly, they're all right wing questions, but does that make them any less valid?

No, not really, dave. And her answer was very poor. But you have to take into account my bias against her so.....:)
