One Note Samba

With another big defeat for Obama in a primary, the "liberal" media are sounding like a broken record. If I hear the words "White" "Middle Class" and "Voters" together on any news station, I turn the channel. Are they that dumb that they can't think of anything else to talk about?

What really cracks me up is that it is simply not true. White middle class voters (d'oh) voted for Obama in Iowa, Wisconsin, Oregon, Idaho, North Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado, and yes, even Kansas. They did not vote for him in West Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

Gee, I wonder why. Could it be because that is where the supporting cast of Deliverance makes their home?

And, seriously, are any of those states going to vote for him in the general? Current polls show McCain up in all those states by 20 points.

Conservatives are cracking me up too. Bill Kristol wrote in his column, on Sunday in the New York Times, that he couldn't recall an eventual nominee losing that badly in a primary. Apparently he has a terrible memory because John McCain, THIS YEAR, lost to Huckabee in West Virginia by a score of 52 to 1 percent. And he lost to Romney in Utah by the score of 90 to 1 percent!

Ah, I love that feeling of a douche bag being so completely wrong.

I live in Kentucky and I am sorry to report that you are correct. I was one of the few who voted for Obama last night. Most people I know won't vote for him because he is black and no other reason. I'm sure it's different in other states, though. We are very behind the times here. I've thought about leaving over the years but I guess I think I am here for a reason, other than my job, and showing people that color of skin doesn't matter might be that reason.

that's a very beautiful comment samuel :)

i watched a report on cnn the day of the kentucky / orgeon primaries. the reporter was in clay county, apparently a poor suburb of kentucky. he talked to your average residents there, all white. one of the sounbytes in his report i thought was very sweet and quite profound / intelligent for an under educated and out-of-work guy.

This was the nephew of someone making around $7000a year, this nephew couldn't find work and couldn't afford the gas to try to find work. He said (i wrote it down when they repeated the report): ' I don't feel like none of them are no good because you know, this is like a small town America deal. You see how we live and it's never gonna change, no matter. The only way it's gonna change for us is a poor man getting in as president, and that's never gonna happen.'

the irony is (i think) Obama is that man, but some people can't see it. He was poor (not rock bottom, but fatherless and mother had no financial means of her own) saved and raised by his single mom's grandparents (who had the money) shuttled from school to school, almost became a high school drop out, had lousy grades and a bad school record until his mother told him he was going to drop out of society, and is that he wanted?

The fact that he went to Harvard and got the highest grades in law school, through focus determination and hard work, the fact that he is white and black, that the biggest influences on his life were white growing up into adulthood and black in childhood friends and his marriage, let's call it 'American' rather than colour it because hearts and minds are not dark or fair, at least not in skin pigments. The fact that he had no money and no life and now has plenty of both plus opportunity, should make him the 'poor' person's best-shot candidate, as well the white's, black's and rich person's. I think that makes him special. Only when you've had very unique experiences or struggles, or when your humanity has been demonstrated to be greater than your ambition or greed, can you feel for those who have next to nothing. That's the kind of president i think america needs. joanne.

Hey, cool blog. I just googled West Virginia + Kentucky + Obama and you came up just a few clicks down the list.

I live in West Virginia and it isn't all that different than Kentucky. Samuel is right, lots of people here whose necks are redder than a sunburnt crab. They see a black man and they think "criminal." I was the only white man once at a city function that did not use the "n" word. This area of the country really does need to catch up but I have no idea how to make that happen. Do you, Samuel? Or anyone else?

I think that "secession from the Union" idea was unfortunately about 140 years ahead of its time. Markadelphia, any chance you want to take your ilk and live West of the Mississippi, while HMHC takes our ilk and we'll live East of the Mississippi? You guys can call your new country "Democracyland" or some other cornball name that your artsy-fartsy brethren come up with. We'll call our country "Pissonyouland".

I only hope HMHC can find a spot for me in his administration.

I wouldn't want to give up Chicago. And I think you and Crab would be crawling back to our "side" after the intelligent design and no prostitutes allowed crowd would get to be too much:)

I enjoy hearing about ID. I guess that makes me more open-minded than you, huh? And if I need a prostitute, I'll go with HMHC on his next trip. I'm sure CBL won't mind.

I actually somewhat believe in intelligent design...the whole ET thing, you know. I was basing my statement on previous posts of your regarding evolution.

I think I remember justDave putting up a long post a while back on this blog about 2 Americas as pl described. Would be cool if he could post it again in here.

PL would be my Director of Recreation and Finance. There will be a tug of war for Chicago. Markkkus can have San Francisco...just tell those feminists you want to legalize prostitution and duck as they throw things at you. I called CBL this morning and she said it was ok for PBL and I to expat to Bangkok in 3 years after we open up free trade markets for Russian brides here in the US of pissonyouitsmymoney.

I predict Mark will make Topeka, Kansas the capital of his new nation though. I will not step foot in your country, only fly over it on my way to Tijuana National Airport.

I just love the way enlightened liberals reach out. Funny how you think Bush invented "us v. them". If he did invent it, you are working on perfecting it.
