Markie, c'mon. You are so partisan and unfair. Take a few moments and try to understand why she wants to kill Senator Obama. If you could just see her side...

as if that is any different than the garbage on dailykos or randy rhodes on air america. same stuff, different side of the aisle.

Please show us, SW, where either one of those sites advocated assassinating the president.

1. Air America Radio aired a spot threatening to assassinate President Bush for trying to reform Social Security. Randi Rhodes played the following radio drop during her afternoon drive show:

A spoiled child is telling us our Social Security isn’t safe anymore, so he is going to fix it for us. Well, here’s your answer, you ungrateful whelp: [audio sound of 4 gunshots being fired.] Just try it, you little bastard. [audio of gun being cocked].

Rhodes then giggled when the spot finished playing. 2 days later, Rhodes offered a leftist apology – an expression of regret, all the while denying personal culpability and stating any wrongdoing is dwarfed by the sheer evil embodied by her political opponents.

2. Democrat Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear, who has remained neutral during the presidential primary and who will serve as a Kentucky superdelegate at the national convention in August, avoided talking about the Democratic candidates by criticizing President Bush.

"When I mention that Democrats are problem solvers, I can think of only one Republican who can be a problem solver — that is Vice President Dick Cheney if he would just take George on a hunting trip," Beshear said. Cheney accidentally shot fellow quail hunter Harry Whittington in Texas in 2006.

3. Then you have the provocative film “Death of a President,” which imagines the assassination of George W. Bush. Bombed at the box office.

There you go yippy dog Sara. For every 1 you have, I'll post 3. oh and from your other post, if you are going to believe the bad things Mclellan is saying in his book are you going to believe the complimentary things he says or are you liberals going to know exactly when Mclellan is lying and exactly when he is telling the truth? I'm sure you'll all be able to figure that all out from surfing the internet in your bedrooms.

i remember when jerry falwell encouraged the assassination of hugo chavez, a world leader, on falwell media after chavez spoke at the un and called bush satan's minion (in a kind of jokey way.)

it's not a one-way street and i'm sure there are many more examples of on and off-the-record conversations on both sides.

Good examples sw but don't respond to 'yippy dog' sara, sw's the one surfing the internet in his bedroom and you musta touched a nerve. joanne.

Whatever anonymous. Sara asked for examples and she got them and none of them were off the record. I know it isn't a one way street and markadelphia sure didn't feel the need to make an entry about the 3 examples I gave but let hillary or someone on fox news say it about HIS guy and he is outraged all of a sudden. There isn't anything wrong with surfing the internet, just don't pretend to know when McClellan is lying and when he is being truthful from surfing the internet or watching tv. I'm sure plenty of people will conveniently believe what they want to believe and conveniently discount what they want to discount.

Steve,

Your example of the Randi Rhodes thing is unclear. From the way you describe it sounds like someone is shooting the child. Is there an audio clip of it somewhere?

The Cheney joke would have never happened had ol Dick not shot his pal in the face. I agree the joke was in bad taste but I guess I'd like to see an example of Ed Schultz, Keith Olberman, or whomever...saying we should "take President Bush out. "

I haven't seen the Death of the President. But from what I have heard, it sounds like a pretty sick joke to play out the assassination of a current president. Full judgment reserved, of course, until I see it.

That being said, "same stuff, different side of the aisle" is true of the Democratic Party of the past. Certainly, LBJ's administration was as corrupt as Bush's and employed the same level of scumbag. Even going back to the Reconstruction Era when Democrats accused Republicans of "having nigger on the brain" we can see how truly awful they were. Your mainstream Democrat, up until recent history, was pretty awful. In that much, we agree.

Today, though, the mantle of "horrible" and "awful" lays squarely on the shoulders of the conservative. Or neo conservative. Or whatever. The right has turned every criminal act they have committed into a "partisan witch hunt" so magically they are guilty of nothing and they can say and do pretty much whatever they want.

The mentality of Liz Trotta runs rampant throughout the base and to say the liberals are just like that is flat out wrong. Sure, there are nutters on the left who say sick shit but it isn't in the mainstream like it is on the right now. As one conservative Iraqi vet told me at a Christmas party a couple of years ago, if he sees a Democrat, "it's his job to kill 'em."

People on the left want justice, sw, not revenge. They want to see Bush and Cheney in jail, not killed. And they want that, not because they "just hate Bush" but because he broke the law.

Actually, what the clip really shows is the right's unrelenting "talking point" of intentionally confusing Osama and Obama.

The woman really had to think hard to remember to make the mistake. It seemed that she was going to say "Senator Obama," but then the talking point clicked in and she remembered to make the "mistake."

Childish, yes. But they have to keep hammering home the lie that Obama is a Muslim, to rile up the anti-immigrant (read racist) segment of the Republican party. With this tactic they hope to make these people swallow their hatred and vote for McCain, whom they consider to be a traitor, instead of sitting home or registering a protest vote for Barr or someone else.

Anonymous said...

I really don't get what the right thinks McCain is a traitor. He is consistently one of the most conservative voters in the Senate. Abortion, gay marriage, conservative judges, the war, health care, education-he is lock step on all these issues.

SW, I would like to hear the audio clip of the Rhodes show as well and you mentioned the Daily Kos. Where is the example from that?

I agree with markadelphia that anyone that jokes about killing a president or candidate on either side is sick. So those other comments you listed are wrong. But seriously, take a look at both sides and tell me, which is the more violent? The right likes to solve problems with the "fuck you, shoot first and ask questions later" mentality. Everything has to be a fight and its always "US vs. Them."

Doesn't the left get ripped for being weak? So how can they be violent if all they want to do is sing kum by yah and get along? Sounds like you have yourself quite a conundrum there.

Anonymous said...

I don't think mccain is a traitor, never said anything like that as a matter of fact. markadelphia, the spolied child and ungrateful whelp they are talking about in the soundbite is GWB. A simple google search of a few words and you will have all the stories you need on the bit that played on her show. You folks know it aired too. Now you're asking for proof of specific radio hosts and specific tv hosts? in a recent comment section about media bias you said that you didn't think olberman was a liberal because he talked about j wright so much. Sounds like you know he is a liberal which is why you just included him in your question. Another dishonest attempt at fooling people by you exposed. Nope, not going to provide any more examples. I provided 3 examples to saras one example so my work is done. I gave you a quote from an elected official in the democratic party and you have to go back to the accident where someone was seriously hurt. Karma is a bitch you know.

I have no conundrum. I provided 3 examples to your one. Steve.

Well, I know that Olberman doesn't like George Bush and I haven't heard him say anything about killing the president. Whether he is a liberal or not is a different story...

And there are plenty of videos of Reverend Wright getting off on himself so I don't think it is too much to ask for a link to the Randi Rhodes clip.

Couldn't find an audio clip because it happened in 2005 but stories about it aren't that hard to find.

Here is an audio clip of a different one. Hear the gunshot?

http://www.cynicalnation.com/randi1.mp3

I never said Olbermann himself talked about it.

hey markadelphia, nice post above, reminds me of something you said here not long ago,

"Not really the point...but hey, remember, that is their modus operandi...re-direct, deflect, deny, blame liberals, and shirk all responsibility."

Exactly what you are doing in this post - re-directing, deflecting, blame conservatives, etc.

Actually, Steve, you may want to read these lines again.

"I agree the joke was in bad taste"

"But from what I have heard, it sounds like a pretty sick joke to play out the assassination of a current president."

"Your mainstream Democrat, up until recent history, was pretty awful."

Yep, that's me alright-redirecting.

Your argument of "same shit different side of the aisle" holds weight when you look at the totality of history. In current times, however, the Republicans are the ones that have elevated scumbag criminal to the mainstream. As Sara said above, how can the Democrats be the same when they are weak and want to sing kum by yah?

Anonymous said...

No, heres the redirecting and blaming the other side that you claim to not like -"Today, though, the mantle of "horrible" and "awful" lays squarely on the shoulders of the conservative. Or neo conservative. Or whatever. The right has turned every criminal act they have committed into a "partisan witch hunt" so magically they are guilty of nothing and they can say and do pretty much whatever they want."

"As one conservative Iraqi vet told me at a Christmas party a couple of years ago, if he sees a Democrat, "it's his job to kill 'em."

It's not enough for you to just say the joke was wrong. So there are Iraqi vets and there are conservative iraqi vets, got it. So how far back does your idea of recent history go? When did Current times start? 3 years ago? 9 months ago? Take a look at the lecture at Obamas church just last weekend?

Steve W.

Mark Ward said...

Sure, the lecture at Obama's church was filled with terrible things to say. But how did that speech result in the deaths of thousands of innocent people? Or bilk taxpayers out of billions of dollars? Or break the law?

The Democratic Party has no real power and hasn't for the last eight years. One could argue that it has been the last 28 years and it was the weakness and mistakes of Jimmy Carter that paved the way for the power and corruption of Reagan-Bush -Bush II.

I guess this is what I would define as current history although LBJ and Nixon were about as criminal and operated the same was as our current president. No doubt the Clintons are corrupt as well but at a much lower level--more white collar crime than crimes against humanity.

So, I really don't see how the left has the same sort of effect on the world as the right does. The left just doesn't have it in them. They do have other problems, though, that are definitely worth criticism.

Anonymous said...

I think you may not see it because Washington DC is the center of the universe to you and I think you tend to drift toward a mindset that says that most societal problems originate from Washington DC. When you think that you will no doubt probably think most problems can be solved by Washington DC as well. I don't see it that way. Now I don't like it any more than you do but taxpayers have been bilked out of millions if not billions of dollars for decades courtesy of both wars and failed government programs...it isn't something new. Just like government waste with regards to Iraq won't end when the democrats take control this fall, know that government programs and tax increases don't ever go away either.

If we're talking about political solutions (barf) to problems there are plenty of local elected officials be they Republicans, Democrats, governors, mayors, county comissioners, elected and appointed judges, state supreme courts, school boards, police chiefs, local aldermen, etc. who have sway in how things are handled in society as well.

If deaths of innocents, wasted taxpayer dollars and lawbreaking are what really matters then why do you care if some dingbat on some fox news show makes an completely idiotic quip like she did? That youtube clip you started this thread with, to me, seems just as inconsequential as the lecture at Obamas church last weekend.

I won't even mention that pastor getting a $100,000 earmark from Obama not long ago. Oops, I mentioned it, my bad.

I'm in a good mood today. Hope everyone is having a super day. I'm going to see the Twins/Yankees this weekend.

Remember - on gray days you have to make your own sunshine!

Hi Joanne!

Hello you :) I hope your team wins :) It's hot & sunny here all of a sudden and even when not, i'm going to follow your good advice and make my own(okay, no follow up remarks on the heat from lateral-thinking you.) Peace and sunshine to all. joanne.
