Great Line

From the comments section, courtesy of BLK:

Two days after Bush lectured the Knesset about "appeasement," Israel began peace negotiations with Syria. This man is completely out of touch with reality. He's like a five-year-old in a perpetual temper tantrum.

It really is true. I am counting the days when our country can lead again as opposed to being an international embarrassment.

No shit. Every time he opens his mouth I can feel the rest of the world wondering what the hell is wrong with America.

Another great line:
Perhaps, if Sen. Obama would take the time and trouble to understand this issue he would learn to debate an honest disagreement respectfully. But, as he always does, he prefers impugning the motives of his opponent, and exploiting a thoughtful difference of opinion to advance his own ambitions. If that is how he would behave as president, the country would regret his election.

I grinned ear to ear when I read this one. I can't believe people are giving Obama a pass on his comment made on the Senate floor, of all places, regarding McCain and his support of veterans. What a classless move. And for the sake of all of you who are so busy diddling each other over what a savior that guy is I hope it's not another sign of how ill-equipped he is to lead the country.

he'll get all kinds of passes. i remember markadelphia making fun of generic speaking gaffes made by bush but obama has made lots of gaffes as well

* Last May, Obama claimed that Kansas tornadoes killed a whopping 10,000 people: “In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died — an entire town destroyed.” The actual death toll: 12.

*Earlier this month in Oregon, he redrew the map of the United States: “Over the last 15 months, we’ve traveled to every corner of the United States. I’ve now been in 57 states? I think one left to go.”

*Last week, in front of a roaring Sioux Falls, South Dakota audience, Obama exulted: “Thank you Sioux City…I said it wrong. I’ve been in Iowa for too long. I’m sorry.”

*Explaining last week why he was trailing Hillary Clinton in Kentucky, Obama again botched basic geography: “Sen. Clinton, I think, is much better known, coming from a nearby state of Arkansas. So it’s not surprising that she would have an advantage in some of those states in the middle.” On what map is Arkansas closer to Kentucky than Illinois?

*Obama has as much trouble with numbers as he has with maps. Last March, on the anniversary of the Bloody Sunday march in Selma, Alabama, he claimed his parents united as a direct result of the civil rights movement:
“There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama, because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born.” Obama was born in 1961. The Selma march took place in 1965. His spokesman, Bill Burton, later explained that Obama was “speaking metaphorically about the civil rights movement as a whole.”

*Earlier this month in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Obama showed off his knowledge of the war in Afghanistan by honing in on a lack of translators: “We only have a certain number of them and if they are all in Iraq, then it’s harder for us to use them in Afghanistan.” The real reason it’s “harder for us to use them” in Afghanistan: Iraqis speak Arabic or Kurdish. The Afghanis speak Pashto, Farsi, or other non-Arabic languages.

*Over the weekend in Oregon, Obama pleaded ignorance of the decades-old, multi-billion-dollar massive Hanford nuclear waste clean-up:
“Here’s something that you will rarely hear from a politician, and that is that I’m not familiar with the Hanford, uuuuhh, site, so I don’t know exactly what’s going on there. (Applause.) Now, having said that, I promise you I’ll learn about it by the time I leave here on the ride back to the airport.”

I assume on that ride, a staffer reminded him that he’s voted on at least one defense authorization bill that addressed the “costs, schedules, and technical issues” dealing with the nation’s most contaminated nuclear waste site.

*Last March, the Chicago Tribune reported this little-noticed nugget about a fake autobiographical detail in Obama’s Dreams from My Father: Then, there’s the copy of Life magazine that Obama presents as his racial awakening at age 9. In it, he wrote, was an article and two accompanying photographs of an African-American man physically and mentally scarred by his efforts to lighten his skin. In fact, the Life article and the photographs don’t exist, say the magazine’s own historians.

* And in perhaps the most seriously troubling set of gaffes of them all, Obama told a Portland crowd over the weekend that Iran doesn’t “pose a serious threat to us”–cluelessly arguing that “tiny countries” with small defense budgets can’t do us harm– and then promptly flip-flopped the next day, claiming, “I’ve made it clear for years that the threat from Iran is grave.”

I know the recent sweetie fiasco isn’t really a gaffe, but it’s worth honorable mention.

And white people being typical,

Don’t forget his Bitter and clinging to guns and Bibles.

Or talking about buying argula at Whole Foods in a state where there are no such stores.

Or saying I never heard those sermons in a Church he attended for 20 years.

And let’s not forget his stirring speech a couple of weeks back where he evoked the stirring imagery of the American Flag and his love for the freedom it represents by evoking the visual memory of the Flag drapped over his father’s coffin. Problem is, his father was a Kenyan citizen who died in Kenya in a DUI accident. If there was any flag adorning his father’s coffin, it was more likely a symbol of socialism or communism.

I'm no Obama fan- but come on- Bush is like that one King of England, I think it was, who went crazy and they had to have a regent prince really be in charge, and yet they still put on the facade that the King was normal and in control...if anyone thinks Bush is normal and in control, I don't know what to say!

SW and PL, take a look back at some of my comments and tell me where I said Obama was perfect. People like him and are drawn to him because he says things like this:

"I want to have good people around me. Smart People. Because I am going to make mistakes and I am going to need others to help out."

The others he is speaking of are not simply his cabinet. It is the whole country. I don't think either one of you fully realize how badly Bush et al have driven this country into the ground. ALL of us are going to have to work at getting it restored to some semblance of working condition and ALL of us are going to make mistakes.

The difference between Obama and Bush is that when Bush has made mistakes he has not claimed responsibility (save Katrina) and in many cases (Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran) forcefully continues those flawed policies.

In addition, PL..just what exactly was wrong with Obama's speech on veterans? He gave respect to McCain's service and then questioned why McCain isn't supporting Webb's GI bill. I'd like to know that as well because 75 other Senators are supporting the bill, both Republican and Democrat alike. Webb, btw, was Secretary of the Navy under Reagan and a decorated Marine vet who served time in Vietnam.

I think the real problem here is that someone finally called the neo-cons full of shit on supporting veterans (which they fucking well don't) and it kinda stings, doesn't it?

I think I am going to turn this GI Bill thing into a post. It's just another example how some conservatives are completely full of shit.

The only reason why McCain and some others are against the bill is because they can't allow Democrats to look like they are supporting the troops. It simply can't happened and is verboten.

Doesn't every one know that Democrats hate the troops and are all a bunch of socialist pigs?

I believe the reason why McCain does not support the GI bill is because it is, in his words, "too generous."

Really?

I think you all better stop speculating as to why McCain doesn't support the bill before your ignorance becomes even more glaringly obvious than Obama's did. Ignorance, or perhaps a simple lack of interest in acknowledging a perfectly valid alternate point of view. A very common affliction for many in the comfort of the blogosphere.

Mark, what exactly was wrong with Obama's speech on veteran's? Other than the fact that it completely misrepresented McCain's opposition to the bill, there wasn't much wrong with it. It provided some quality soundbites that are certain to win over those who are too lazy or indifferent to learn the truth.

If this sort of speech, as well as the attitude of many of you in the blogosphere, is representative of the "let's all join hands and work together to solve our problems" approach, then frankly you all are completely full of shit.

Kinda stings, doesn't it?

Mark, I have no problem with Obama being imperfect. While many of his supporters act as if they believe he is, I suspect most are smart enough to know otherwise. I do, however, have a major problem with the very thing that you constantly criticize in Republicans - saying one thing while doing the opposite. This speech on the Senate floor is as clear-cut an example of that as you will ever see. When contrasted with the very quote that you cited:
"I want to have good people around me. Smart People. Because I am going to make mistakes and I am going to need others to help out."
his eagerness to misrepresent the stance of McCain on the issue in order to score some points shows him to be just another politician with a "do anything to win" attitude.

And hey, don't me wrong...I have nothing against a "do anything to win" approach. I'm quite fond of it. Just don't profess to be massaging my back when, in fact, you are simply looking for the ideal spot to insert the knife.
