Don't Forget Your Rubber Ducky

I think most people thought that Republicans were going to take a bath this fall. But if the special elections of the last few months are any indication, it's going to be a tub the size of the Pacific Ocean. Democrats have won in special elections in IL-14 and LA-3, both are R+7 districts according to the Partisan Voting Index. , which basically means they are Republican strongholds. These two elections alone should make conservatives nervous.

Last night's special election in MS-01 should make them shit pink twinkies.

The Democrat Travis Childers (left) beat the Republican Greg Davis (right) in a R+ fucking 10 district. Are you kidding me!!!?? Even I didn't expect this.

The victory isn't even the best part. The Republican Party poured tons of money into this race and even sent Dick Cheney there to stump for Davis. They ran attack ads linking Childers to Obama and....yep, that's right...Reverend Wright. The slime machine was set to 11 and Childers was everything from a thief to a friend of Osama's.

None of it worked. Not a single fucking bit of it. Perhaps the American people are finally starting to wake up.

You see, this is what happens when you you run the country into the ground. People are sick and tired of being lied to and screwed over. They have recognized the Republican Party for what it is and are starting to understand the outcomes of their failed policies. I think many Americans are going to be speaking very loudly and very clearly this fall, folks and if I were a Republican running right now, I might want to consider actually taking responsibility for the mountain of incompetence of the last eight years.

Think it will happen?

SW, I am responding to your comment in a post below regarding how liberal Childers is. Why don't you look at where he stands on the issues and share with us what you feel is liberal and what is conservative?

I have a friend in Mississippi that worked for Childers. He backs Obama's universal health plan (as opposed to Hillary's). How exactly is that conservative?

I followed this race. This was the 4th election for this position in 2 months, primary then runoff, election then runoff. Both Davis and Childers still have to run against two other candidates in the Nov. 4 general election for the full term. Markadelphia said that the Republicans poured tons of money into this race. The National Republican Congressional Committee spent $1.27 million on behalf of Davis. The Democrat Congressional Committee spent $1.84 million on Childers’ behalf.

in that link there is a transcript of a debate he was in -

CHILDERS: I'm a Mississippi Democrat. I'm on the side of struggling families, children that need health care and teenagers whose only hopes are a college degree. I'm pro-life and pro-gun and for balanced budgets. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Illegal immigration has to stop. I will not negotiate away my core principles in Washington. We do not have to change our core values to change direction in America, but if we do not change the direction of our country, our core values will be compromised. I will work across partisan and philosophical lines to get the job done.

Whatever Elizabeth you midget minded idiot.Childers is pro-life, pro gun, anti gay marriage and anti illegal immigration. He’s more conservative than McCain is but you wouldn't know that if you just listened to that hack markadelphia would you? He thinks marriage is between a man and a woman, usually that would make him an intolerant bigot on this blog but since he has that D behind his name now he is markadelphias best buddy. Funny how that works.

He isn't a republican but he is pretty conservative. funny how he endorsed all those failed policies during the campaign.

A couple of good points there sw, and thanks for breaking out of 1 line insult mode for once. Congrats to the Democrats, and thank you.

"Whatever Elizabeth you midget minded idiot."

My oh my. Someone is in a wee bit of a snit, aren't they? I guess that's what happens when your playhouse starts to fall down around you.

Do you know what his position is on civil unions? Sara says he supports universal health care. Don't we all want to balance the budget?

Many Republicans knew they were going down a long time ago, and decided not to run this year. This has created a lot of competitive races in areas that had been essentially uncontested for many election cycles.

Part of the reason was that it was no fun being a Republican in a Democratically controlled Congress. The Republicans had essentially shut Democrats out of all legislation with their tactics in the House, and had threatened the same in the Senate. The Democrats didn't adopt the same gimmicks, but the pork spigot has been mostly turned off. It's especially galling that the same Republicans who kept screaming about Democracy in the Middle East did everything they could to eliminate it in the United States.

Trent Lott resigned only a year after being reelected, apparently so that he would only have to wait a year to become a lobbyist, rather than the two years required by law starting this past January.

And of course, Billy Tauzin led the charge with his resignation in 2005, to go to work for a pharmaceutical lobbying organization two months after shoving through a bill that was essentially written by those same lobbyists. Republican Congressmen Dan Burton and Walter Jones have publicly accused Tauzin of unethical conduct in the sordid affair.

Playhouse, wow.democrats in mississippi just done elected someone more conservative than McCain. You wanted me to look at where he stands on the issues and tell you where he was conservative. I did, much more than you did apparantly. I know none of you will ever admit it but I'm guessing not many of u knew where he stood on those issues till I posted the above transcript. I answered your question now answer mine - Is Childres intolerant because he is against gay marriage?

Mark Ward said...

Of course I knew, sw. So what? On core issues like the economy, taxes, Iraq, health care, energy, and education he will vote with the Democrats. Issues like abortion and gay marriage are not as important to people these days.

And you really might want to check again on McCain's voting record. He has the 5th most conservative record in the whole Senate. He will also appoint more judges like Scalia and Alito. And you are complaining about him....why exactly?

Is Childers intolerant because he is against gay marriage?

I would say he is, yes. But how many gay friends does he have? If he hasn't had the experience yet, how can he truly understand?

Until he takes action against gay marriage through policy, as many conservatives have done, he won't be as bad in my book. Barack Obama is against gay marriage but he supports civil unions and equal legal rights for gay couples. Does Childers? I don't know. I do know, though, that this issue is not on the minds of people right now who can't afford health care and are paying 4 dollars a gallon for gasoline. The conservatives will try to go back to it, especially since California yesterday, but it's not going to fly.
