Mission Accomplished

"Thinking about my kids in school having to listen to that just really upsets me," suburban Colorado mother Shanneen Barron told CNN Denver affiliate KMGH. "I'm an American. They are Americans, and I don't feel that's OK. I feel very scared to be in this country with our leadership right now."

Why do I get this feeling that in 1991, when then House Majority Leader Dick Gephardt and Democrat Rep. William Ford demanded, and got, a GAO investigation and Congressional hearings on whether George H.W. Bush making a speech to junior high kids in Washington DC (note, one school, not a national address) was legal and appropriate....

...somehow I just have this sneaking feeling that there was nary a peep from you about how paranoid this all was.

I wonder why that is.

My biggest frustration right now is the seemingly blind eye that is turned by conservatives to the mammoth amount of insanity in their own party.

What happened in 1991...the complaints by the Democrats...were NOTHING compared to the lunacy we see now. It didn't get a peep from me because I never heard about it so wow...it must've made quite an impression which, sadly, is about as effective as any complaints the Democrats make.

See, Grumpy, they don't have 30 million willfully ignorant and paranoid people to rely on. They have..maybe six. The people you call "leftist" crazies are a small collection of unarmed, milktoasty, granola eating, Che Guevera reading morons who couldn't organize their way out of a paper bag. THERE IS NO LEFT IN THIS COUNTRY!!!!!!!

The right, however, has a large collection of armed, testosterone fueled, meat eating, Glenn Beck watching morons who want blood. Gee, I wonder which group wins in a fight...

I will conceded, however, that when you are as far right as these 30 million people, everyone is a communist...a fascist...or a socialist.

Well, by now you must have seen our President's speech today. How can you not love this guy? While I'm not sure he is the President we deserve as a nation, he sure is the one we NEED. God, I''m glad he in the office.

It's also gratifying to see that the wingnut right were so freaking wrong on the whole issue, like on well, every issue. My roomie and I were discussing this when he brought up the question "When has the conservative viewpoint ever been correct on any major issue this country has faced? Slavery? The New Deal? Hell, even independence? The conservative viewpoint there was to remain loyal to the Crown. It was outright radicals who founded this country, and the conservatives have been little but ballast for our entire history.

But then, I'm preaching to the choir, ain't I?

Could you give us a reference for a real news report on this, and not some conservative talking points website? It's not that I don't believe it happened, I'm just curious to find out what the rest of the story is.

As you recall, Bush II and Reagan also delivered some kind of address to schools, and Democrats didn't utter a massive hue and cry over it.

You may also recall that Bush II was reading a story about a goat with some kids in school on 9/11. And after he was told about the second attack he just sat there looking sort of stunned.

Sorry blk, I can't, at least not easily. The story is from '91, before the internet existed in a practical sense. If you do find a link, please share.

Please understand, I don't object to his speech. But I understand why some do. And it's not the speech per se. The speech itself, from what I heard, was unremarkable. What got people's dander up was the DoE hardcopy stuff which basically called for the support of an individual politician, rather than for the country.

Do I think it's rather silly and overblown? Yes, I do. But I think it's less silly and overblown than calling it "paranoid psychosis", especially from people who fell for "Bush lied".

Yeah, okay. So? He was doing some kind of PR photo op apparently. What of it? Like no President has done that before.

When he was told, he sat there looking sort of stunned. Well okay, him and pretty much everyone I know. Again, so?

And yet 36.3% of Democrats surveyed think that even though he was doing a photo op, and was obviously caught so flat-footed by the news that it literally stunned him, that he knew about it beforehand and let it happen so he could go to war.

Another 6.3% think he planned it.

Note the response to question 402, upper right corner of pg 8 in the PDF.

And you wonder why we laugh at you when you accuse pretty much anyone of being a paranoid conspiracy theorist.

I can count more than 6 just in the upper echelons of the US government. I guess it depends on how you define "paranoid", "ignorant" and "armed".

As for the threat, if the left is so harmless, why did the FBI consider it the #1 domestic threat in 2008?

Damn those right wing eco-terrorists...

Would you have extended the same courtesy to the last occupant of the White House? Or would you have raised the same kind of stink as the right wing is now?

Just something for you all to think about.
