Chest Thumping

In what was quite possibly one of the most amusing screeds by the right in the last few years, Jonah Goldberg's Liberal Fascism failed (see: completely) to address the issue of nationalism. You can't complain about a group of individuals (liberals) and label them America "haters" while, at the same time, calling them fascists. It's akin to criticizing a political party or a country of too little government control and then walking away, screaming, "Commies!"

A key tenet of fascism is a fierce sense of nationalism. A recent article by Neal Gabler illustrates the fact that the right are the ones that have this key ingredient of fascism.

There is nothing wrong with self-satisfaction or national pride. But the incessant trumpeting of our national superiority to every other country in the world is more than just off-putting and insulting. It is infantile, like the vaunting of a schoolyard bully that his Dad is better than your Dad. It is wrong. And it might be dangerous both to ourselves and to the rest of the world.

It also doesn't work. We live in a global economy now and it is simply good business to understand and get along with other cultures. Wait. Sorry. I just realized that the words "understand" and "get along with" when used in conjunction with the right can probably only exist on one place in the world.

Fantasy Island.

You still don't grasp the difference between an "article" as you described this, and an opinion piece. Are you really just that stupid?

Goldberg is even dumber than Sarah Palin, which in itself nearly defies belief.

Benito Mussolini, the founder of fascism, defined it as follows: "Fascism is the melding of corporate and governmental power." It is properly called corporatism.

See: http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article7260.htm

Only the terminally delusional or actively psychotic could twist that definition into a statement of left-wing anything.

I have no patience with those who refuse to acknowledge facts. Read your f@#$^!' history, you pinheads.

The melding of corporate and government power? Like owning GM or dictating executive pay? That type of melding?

Try reading the article I linked to rather than making spurious and fallacious arguments based on illogic. Facism's about the fusing of corporate power and control mechanisms with the machinery of government to subjugate the masses and distract them with hyped-up nationalism and imperialism.

In other words, Einstein, it is government of, by and for corporate interests.

Jeebus, why do I bother.

In other words there ain't a lot of difference between authoritarianism (i.e. fascism) and totalitarianism (i.e. communism). You are pretty much fucked either way. Goldberg (IMHO) would've been much better off arguing that. But it's not like he's ever taken my advice before. ;-)

In other words, Einstein, it is government of, by and for corporate interests.

No, that isn't what Il Duce said EITHER. But thanks for playing.

Waiting for moron arguing that totalitarianism isn't as bad as fascism in 3, 2, 1...

KD, government ownership of GM and (at least the discussion of) dictation of pay are FACTS - the opposite of fallacious.

Hey M, here's another example of political bullying - Democratic Party style. One can only imagine the howling if a pair of Republicans had demanded the same.

What do you guys think the liberal reaction would have been if there were folks lining up around the block to get a vaccine that wasn't available for H1N1 when a rebublican was in office? I think some on here would want some answers from GWBs HHS Secretary...perhaps some would want to know why the administration doesn't care about the lives of children. Others may have blamed the shortage on GWB himself. I'm looking for someone to blame here as that has always been the first crucual step in addressing any issue. Help me out folks.
