81 year old Dorli Rainey after being pepper sprayed by police at Occupy Seattle.

I wonder who she raped and what drugs she did?

Wow, you found one victim of the police. There are a lot more stories you seem to have missed.

Hey, we're just repeating their actions back to you.

And police are a function of....government. heh, funny how that works. It also goes to show that age does not equate with wisdom.

By the way, good luck finding any pepper spray victims at a Tea Party Rally because there weren't any. That was because they peacefully assembled, followed the rules, and left and yet the reverbs were heard around the world without resorting to lawlessness, crassness, violence, antisemitism, and rioting. Compare and contrast.

haha, yes the police are a function of city government and government = all that is holy to Mark.

Dorli Rainey? The life-long activist and self-described, "all-around-troublemaker"? Here's a link to her blog, "Old Lady in Combat Boot".

BTW, pepper spray is rather indiscriminant on who it lands when sprayed into a crowd.

I've gotta say, I'm unimpressed by the Occupy Wall Street movement. Camping out in public spaces is not a sustainable tactic. They're just alienating the very people they think they're helping.

If you're gonna occupy Wall Street, you have to actually occupy the financial district, not city parks across the country, and you have to fight the big banks and hedge fund weasels, not city government and the police.

And you can't occupy private property without violating the rights of the people who own that private property. Add to that the impracticality of camping out all winter long, and this just can't go on in its current form.

They would have better luck with a "virtual" occupation, getting people to boycott the banks that screwed us over until they change the policies that caused our economic problems in the first place. Or some other form of protest that would slow down the banks' business to a crawl without actually committing any crimes.

The Tea Party was pretty much the same as OWS in the beginning: just a bunch of crazy old coots screaming about keeping the government's hands off their Social Security. They would show up at town hall meetings with semiautomatic rifles, spit at members of Congress, and hurl racist epithets. But that was all of two years ago, so I can't expect Tea Party faithful to remember that.

The Tea Party became better organized when Fox News began running its PR (even falsifying reporting to make it seem more popular than it really was), and the Koch brothers, Karl Rove and people like Clarence Thomas' wife began to finance and run it. The Tea Party pretends to be a bottom-up organization, but everyone knows that now it's run by giant corporations and Republican operatives behind the scenes.

And the Tea Party faithful realize it all too painfully as well, when Karl Rove starts talking about how so many of their candidates are too crazy and whacked out to run for office. But they appear to be falling into line, even though many of them hate Willard ("The Rat") Romney more than they hate Obama.

Good points, Nikto. Why can't the four of you above him offer the same sort of constructive criticism? Now that OWS has money they should rent some space in the area of Wall Street and start building a coalition. They could be the voice for so many unemployed and screwed over people.

Compare and contrast.

Alright.

That was because they peacefully assembled, followed the rules, and left and yet the reverbs were heard around the world without resorting to lawlessness, crassness, violence, antisemitism, and rioting.

"The Story of Two Worlds" summed up perfectly right here with these two comments...life inside the bubble and life outside of it.

Accusations of spitting are worse than sexual assaults. Thanks for the update!

Nice link rld. Yep, they found a victim, and we all know victims are virtuous. And yes, we are just showing you all footage of what is going on.

Keep trying to get the focus back onto the tea party. You've lost the narrative on OWS, which is why you are talking about the tea party so much.

Yep, and you are still too ignorant to get out of the bubble!

How about the moment of silence "in solidarity with" the guy who actually fired a gun at the White House?

San Diego OWS Moment of Silence

I also note Mark's comparison of the TEA parties between 6King's comments and Niktos. One is based in reality, and one is fantasy. Here's a hint on which is which:

Semiautomatic rifles: Carried LAWFULLY with no violence. (see 6Kings' description)

Spitting: Disproven by video. The guy was yelling so loudly that spittle was flying and one congressman got caught in the spray. That congressman later admitted that.

Racist epithets: Asserted. Never proven despite large numbers of video cameras and a $100,000 reward for footage of that actually happening.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
— Exodus 20:16

There are six things which the LORD hates,
Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
And hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that run rapidly to evil,
A false witness who utters lies,
And one who spreads strife among brothers.

— Proverbs 6:16–19

“The judges shall investigate thoroughly, and if the witness is a false witness and he has accused his brother falsely, then you shall do to him just as he had intended to do to his brother. Thus you shall purge the evil from among you. The rest will hear and be afraid, and will never again do such an evil thing among you. Thus you shall not show pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.”
— Deuteronomy 19:18–21

Hmmm, interesting how the "eye for eye" language shows up as the appropriate punishment for lying about someone else's actions!

Accusations of spitting are worse than sexual assaults.

Correction: False accusations, or to put it another way: Being falsely accused of spitting makes a person worse than than someone who has committed a proven sexual assault.

Written by Marxy in the Eat the Rich thread:

Many of the problems occurred in Oakland which has now been disavowed by the overall movement.

I just checked the link posted by rld. There are 76 entries there, of which 7 are from Oakland. That's about 9% of the incidents. That may be disproportionately high, but it still leaves the other 91% of the incidents to be committed by the all the rest of the OWS movement.

A. Noni Mouse said...

According to this article she had addressed the crowd. And according to this article she admits that they were blocking streets. And according to her interview with Keith Olberman she was actively involved in the OWS group and other civil disobedience. She's one of the instigators!

And looking at this video, this was no peaceful protest as claimed.

Why didn't you mention these facts in your post?

More video

And more video

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Obviously the OWS people are the peaceful ones and the TEA party people are the violent ones. NOT

(Note: The lady who was attacked was not correct about her take on the Constitution and privacy.)

Isn't she one of those dirty hippies that hate America? I bet she has bongos hidden under her coat. The police probably did her a favor because now she has to shower. You gotta love the "public safety" concern that justified this and other beatings. It is so important to enforce public safety that we have to injure the public in order to do so.

Noni,

2. Character Assassination/Ad Hominem. Fox does not like to waste time debating the idea. Instead, they prefer a quicker route to dispensing with their opponents: go after the person's credibility, motives, intelligence, character, or, if necessary, sanity. No category of character assassination is off the table and no offense is beneath them. Fox and like-minded media figures also use ad hominem attacks not just against individuals, but entire categories of people in an effort to discredit the ideas of every person who is seen to fall into that category, e.g. "liberals," "hippies," "progressives" etc. This form of argument - if it can be called that - leaves no room for genuine debate over ideas, so by definition, it is undemocratic. Not to mention just plain crass.

Well done.

You've lost the narrative - deal with it. Tea parties don't need Rape Free Zones. If it isn't possible to make your point and obey the law at the same time, may want to rethink things a bit.

Keep following kids to school. Nice video at the end, guess one dad didn't like that stranger following him and his kid down the street. Indeed, people are just pointing cameras at it and showing you what they filmed.

Uncle Pete,

Where did I do anything other than look at their actions?

Contrast that with Markadelphia's "mind reading" about what we "actually believe."

Mark Ward said...

You've lost the narrative - deal with it.

First of all, I'm not sure what you mean by "you." I haven't gone to any Occupy events nor do I plan on doing so. I support some of the things they stand for and think it's great that they are bringing to attention some very serious problems in our society-problems, I might add, that adversely affect you every day...whether you want to admit it or not.

I also think that the time to occupy, physically anyway, is over. They have money now so it's time to legitimize the movement and start becoming seriously involved in the political process.

And what exactly have I or the OWS movement "lost?" More people still blame Wall Street for our economy than anyone else (because that's what happened). Two thirds of our country want taxes raised on the wealthy. The OWS movement helped to get 650,000 people to transfer their money to local banks and credit unions. They could accomplish nothing else from this point forward and that's still a victory.

But none of this really matters because you're still not looking at the bigger picture. See, last, your link above is what happens when you don't address issues of social cohesion. I've tried several times to warn you that is how ACTUAL socialist revolutions happen but you're still not listening. Keep shitting on the president, the Democrats, and the other folks in and out of government that are trying to address these concerns and it's going to get worse. Your willful ignorance and continued support of people in government who are making these problems worse are why this shit is happening and likely to degenerate further.

Essentially, you are going to have to cave on some of your catechisms. I'd suggest chucking your "let them eat cake" attitude about these folks, start paying attention to what they are saying, and support people in government that are acting to mitigate these problems.

last in line said...

You as in you telling us to be all careful when talking about them.

Fuck that. I don't have to cave on anything. I'll await my imminent doom I guess.

Is there a chance that the people you support and vote for in government want to keep things the way they are as well?

A lack of social cohesion causes your brothers in the OWS movement to follow children to school when their father tells them to get away from his children?

My link is from the local NYC news and that is what people are seeing on a daily basis. Stand in the road and people should just go all Jake and Elwood on them. Some lessons have to be learned the hard way.

You're part of the 99 percent too, last, you just won't admit it. And your doom isn't imminent but I think we can both agree that letting far left folks run things is just as bad as letting far right folks run things. You characterized the former as running the Democrats these days and fail to see that the latter are, in fact, running the GOP. Sadly, a double fail.

I'm not, at least not according to the standards they said described the 99%. Not that it bothers me, I've always tended to be a 1%-er.

Also you need to see my links on your post of today. If you are up to a little actual thinking that is.
