"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil." –-Sarah Palin, in a message posted on Facebook about Obama's health care plan, Aug. 7, 2009
Nikto will be explaining how this is an outright lie. For today, though, we can take note of yet another leader of the conservative movement demonstrating a monumental lack of responsibility. More importantly, this is not a voice inside of my head. She said this. Millions of people believed her....so much so that our health care legislation did not contain a public option.
We see comments like this come every day from major conservative leaders. They are more outlandish with the fear peddling every day. I can promise all of you that if they stop making comments like this, I'll stop having arguments with "the voices inside my head."

Hey did you here? Now Obama is "hell bent on weakening America" according to Palin. Add that to another voice in your head.

Death panels, one of the most controversial aspects of the bill known as 'Obamacare' will go into effect January 1st, despite having been removed during Congressional debate earlier this year.
…
According to a report by the New York Times, however, the Obama Administration is set to enact the exact type of counseling removed from the legislation. A new Medicare regulation, set to go into effect January 1st, "will pay doctors who advise patients on options for end-of-life care, which may include advance directives to forgo aggressive life-sustaining treatment."
In fact, M, here's a chance for you to show that you're not arguing with a voice in your head.
What is the actual concept which conservatives generally claim is summed up by "death panels".
M, Palin is about as representative of me as she is of you. So go ahead, have a field day. I seriously doubt I'll have anything to comment on.
When you actually want to discuss something with me, we could start with the article I linked to about how ALL businesses (not just the big ones) attempt to use govt to gain advantage in the market. I would be interested if you agree with that - since you usually lionize small business and rage against big ones.
[Fucking worthless blogger - but I got you this time]

Or, this could make for an interesting discussion about business, particularly "She spent thousands of dollars on advertising that did not work."
Nikto will be explaining how this is an outright lie.
Is it still a lie when the AP reports it? Is it still a lie when it comes from Obama's own deficit commission?

[perhaps this will pass whatever filter nonsense blogger is using]
There's a big difference between end of life consulting and death panels. I'm hoping that Nikto will explain that well because the story that was spun by conservatives is such a terrible lie that it's sick.
Okay this is really fascinating. Blogger has dropped this comment repeatedly, but allowed me to post a test, and for others to post. So, once more...

[see if blogger doesn't choke on this again]
For the first time, the government would set — and enforce — an overall budget for Medicare, Medicaid and other federal programs that cover more than 100 million people, from Alzheimer's patients in nursing homes to premature babies in hospital intensive care.
Palin attracted wide attention by denouncing nonexistent "death panels" in Obama's overhaul, but a fixed budget as the commissioners propose could lead to denial of payment for medical care in some circumstances.
And what's the difference between rationing of service and "death panels", exactly?
[blogger has dropped this comment 5 or 6 times now]

This is too fucking weird, blogger keeps kicking out this block of text:

I don't get it, what the hell filter have they got that trips on this?
[well I've finally identified the block of text that blogger won't swallow - please ignore the text in brackets]

[at this point I'm just a little fascinated as to what is so offensive in that block of text that the filter keeps throwing up on it]
Apparently, all those extra spaces and line feeds threw off the filter. That is amazingly weird.
juris,
A few posts back I posted a link to blogger's documentation on how to retrieve false positives from the spam filter. It was a bit.ly link, which, besides apparently making blogger less likely to eat a comment, also lets me see how many times the link has been used.
No one ever used that link, which means Mark never even bothered to see how to retrieve our falsely filtered comments. I guess it doesn't bother him when our comments get eaten.
Here it is again for good measure: http://bit.ly/dGq43X
juris,
A few posts back, I had posted a bit.ly link to post on Blogger.com's official blog describing how to retrieve false positives. (http://bit.ly/dGq43X)
Besides apparently reducing the odds of an eaten comment, bit.ly links let me see how many times they've been used. That one was never used, which means Mark never even bothered to find out how to retrieve our incorrectly deleted comments. It seems that he can't be bothered to do something about the problem.
juris,
A couple weeks ago, I had posted a link to instructions on how to retrieve false positives from the spam filter. He apparently couldn't be bothered to even look at them.

This link leads to an article about the Daily Kos.
Wow! Now all of the tries to post ARE there. That is just so screwed up. Sorry for all the clutter, but at least I did finally get my point across. [sheepish grin]
I'll take the blame for it, juris, although I have no idea why things work now and they didn't before. No need to worry about duplicate posts. Like I said, I did send them an email that I assumed went into help desk oblivion. But it is my blog so whatever problems we had are my fault.
Don't sweat that M, of all the things you should take ownership/responsibility for on this blog - the commenting software reliability is the least of it.
I admit I did get just a little absorbed trying to figure out what was offending the filter. I'm still puzzled by it.
I admit I did get just a little absorbed trying to figure out what was offending the filter. I'm still puzzled by it.
I'll confess I'd kind of gotten to the point of "amateur troubleshooter" myself. Let's see, will multiple posts make it go? How about short posts?
I wasn't seeing any pattern yet.
Yeah for a bit I thought if I just broke it up into small chunks, then there wouldn't be any problems, but recently that hasn't seemed to have held and Juris's experiences above clearly indicate that isn't true. So beats me. Given that it's free, I can't complain too heavily. :)

Oops. Looks like copying it didn't work correctly. Here's the correct link.

No prob, ST. Just saw it and there is nothing, as of now, in the spam filter. So maybe someone from Google cleared it all out. Or it does it by itself. Who knows? From now on, I will check it more regularly and see if I need to clear it out.
Regardless, the comments section is my responsibility and feel pretty rotten for not checking up on all this earlier. If I'm running a blog that allows nearly every sort of comment and then comments get lost, that's on me. All apologies!
