Making The Case

I thought the president made a compelling case tonight in why strikes against Syria might be necessary. Since it appears that Assad is caving, we might not have to act after all. My big takeaway from the speech is how this president is adamant about protecting children. Whether it's domestic policies aimed at curbing gun violence or protecting Syrian children from future chemical weapons attacks, he is firmly on the side of the children.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming days. Will Syria give up their chemical weapons and put them under UN control?

That is your big takeaway eh?

Seems many people aren't so kind to your hero. In fact, I would say the headline says it all:
Barack Obama’s Syria speech was an incoherent mess – he is outperforming Jimmy Carter as the most feeble US president of modern times

and is missing some key issues like:

Obama was also in denial about the nature of some of the rebel groups operating in Syria, identifying Islamists as “extremists,” while downplaying the growing influence of al-Qaeda in the country. He also made no mention of mounting attacks by rebels on Christians in Syria, a major cause for concern on Capitol Hill.

The summary is most applicable:

In essence, and this was amply displayed tonight, Barack Obama has no big picture strategy on Syria, or the wider Middle East, and is bereft of a clear game plan. His speech was also a sea of contradictions. He talked about deploying American military might but has no intention of delivering a decisive blow. He paid lip service to the ideal of American exceptionalism, but is happy to kowtow to Moscow. He urged Congress to support his approach, but wants them to wait before they vote. For these were the words of an exceptionally weak and indecisive president, one who seems to be making up policy on the hoof, as he stumbles and bumbles along on the world stage, with his hapless Secretary of State in tow.

I think this is even more damning. When you can't convince MoDo that your liberal policy is the way to go, who can you convince? Oh, Markadaffya, sure - but he's on board with Obama if the Big O decides to gang rape kittens.

Now, when it is clear Obama can’t convince Congress, the American public, his own wife, the world, Liz Cheney or even Donald “Shock and Awe” Rumsfeld to bomb Syria
