Time For The Smelling Salts

Each day as the election draws nearer, the wing nuts on the right become more and more rabid. Like the madmen being quietly lead into the asylum, frothing at the mouth and screaming about socialism, their time to be put out to pasture is near. I think someone needs to stick some smelling salts underneath their collective noses in the hopes that they will come back to some level of sanity.

A recent column by Michael Malone perfectly illustrates this. It was brought to my attention in comments so I checked it out. The "golden" tidbit that has arisen from his column is a story about a video that the LA Times refuses to release showing Barack Obama having "dinner" with and praising PLO supporter and "radical" Rashid Khalidi, who happens to be one of them Marxist professors at Columbia University (aka Communist University). The blog sphere of loonies is screaming about the liberal media, communism, and every single mom's apple pie being shit on by a bunch of dirty Arabs.

The LA Times won't release it due to confidentiality of a source. Well, I say the LA Times should release the video. People need to see exactly what happened at these dinners...with all these smart people and stuff...talking about smart things...and trying to make the world...smarter. Yeah, let's see some of that shit.

And while they're at it, why don't they talk about the International Republican Institute of which John McCain still chairs? You know the one I am talking about. The organization that gave Center for Palistinian Studies, WHICH RASHID KHALIDI FOUNDED, about a half a million dollars in 1998. Yeah, let's talk about that as well.

But, hey, let's not stop there. Why don't we take a little trip in the way back machine and revisit this oldie but goodie.
I wonder...what would happen if a picture of Barack Obama holding hands with the Saudi Crown Prince came out? Hmm....just think about that one for a little bit.

All done? I know...I know...some right wingers reading this are probably having the EEP-ZAP--QUARK--BLURP going on right now in their brains. It can't be...Obama terrorist....McCain gave money....no...Bush holding hands...ZIP--QUARK-BLURP-ZAP--EEP

You get the picture. Pretty pathetic at this point, isn't it?

So, if you folks on the right want to talk about associations with people and organizations that you find objectionable, please let's talk about them.

C'mon, I fucking dare you!

wow, you posted the official obama campaign response. How intellectual of you. looks like we have details of the link involving mccain as well as the link between bush and the saudis. you still missed the point of the column, which is that a major newspaper is withholding the video from the public - THAT is the point. might give you some insight into how obama views israel, instead of what he has said in speeches or what is on his website. you aren't curious at all about whats on the tape are you?

"major newspaper is withholding the video from the public"

Because the source asked them too not because they are liberal. Cripes.

"you aren't curious at all about whats on the tape are you?"

I already know what is on the tape, sw. It's a video of an honest man listening to another point of view. It's called free speech. Do you understand what I am talking about? You are heading down a slippery slope when you start to prop things up like this as evidence of Obama's anti Americanism. That slope was built in Berlin the day the Reichstag burned.

One could interpret President Bush's call for Palestinian State, the only one EVER by a sitting US President, as anti Israel. Is he anti American as well?

The LA Times issue illustrates things better than I ever could… I could discuss media bias all day, but it would be wasted time; the door is shut.

Tuesday is coming. I have a nice little bottle of Macallan waiting by my plush fireside chair to sit out the night’s activity…watching news anchors’ breathless hourly predictions, “…XXXX has this one locked up (with 1% reporting )…”

The historical odds of a McCain victory are remote. However, the sheer weakness of Obama may just result in the upset of the millennium. (Well, next to Appalachian State taking down Michigan.) The venom coming from the left is greater than anything I’ve seen in my lifetime, and should their Messiah lose, how will the left handle it? I’ve been musing over possible reactions to such an upset victory.

History and current events will be on the left’s side this time around.
They won’t be able to blame voter fraud as Acorn and the left has fairly monopolized that.
They won’t be able to claim failure to get their message out.
They won’t be able to claim those country club Republicans had all the money on their side.
They’ll have had every advantage…and if they still lose, it will be a catastrophic blow to their philosophy. Their views will have been presented in the best possible light and with the best possible packaging and it will have been rejected.

How would they handle that? Will the famous liberal introspection show? Will they soften to a more moderate view? Will the left accept that they are a minority view, want for change, but go about their daily lives in peace. Will they actually try to work together with the right for a better America? Or, to paraphrase Dylan, ‘will they get out of the way if they can’t lend a hand’ and allow the new administration to work? Or will they throw the country under the bus to burn the new administration, country be damned? Will Obama finally work ‘across the aisle’ or become ‘Barack the Gadfly’, a classless Jimmy Carter persona, throwing pies in the face of his own country? Will he devote his new found time to helping the ACLU sue me for putting up a nativity scene on my lawn at Christmas or perhaps help his friends resurrect some old ‘underground’ organizations? Maybe he’ll join other hapless failures like Al Gore and preach the end of the world while followers shiver in the cold. …too close to call, really.

However unlikely a McCain victory, should it happen, is it possible for the left to be a good loser? The average Democrat? Perhaps. But the fringe…you folks…hmmm, that’s a difficult one.

Hah…an amusing thought occurred to me when I brought up Al Gore, Obama and my fireplace in my last post.

I just bought a new furnace, which is of course programmed to exactly 72’ just for our new President. But I already have a fireplace, you see. I was wondering if President Obama would mind me supplementing that furnace with my fireplace. What if it creates too much warmth in my house? What if the temperature rises to, say 74 or 75’? Does my fireplace count or can I rest easy that he only wants to control my furnace thermostat but the final temperature in my home can actually be left to me? What do you think? Am I OK, here?

C'mon Dave...in hindsight, App St upsetting Michigan isn't nearly as big an upset as was first thought. Have you seen the Wolverines play the past few years? They are not that good of a team. Which I suppose actually makes them fairly analogous to Obama.

I'd like to subscribe to your "How would they handle that?" newsletter. I don't believe there is any possibility we will have a chance to observe such a situation, but the behavior of M and the yippy dogs in the event Obama loses would truly interest me. As good Americans we are to make way for the new era of politics should Obama win. Yet you and I are of a like mind in that we suspect the same would not be true should McCain somehow win. In and of itself that's not so sad...it's even predictable. The sad part is that their inability to do so would undoubtedly be ultimately be pinned back on us, as if we deserve that result. To his credit, M has stood up and said he will hold Obama accountable, that he expects Obama to be hardest on the raging liberals that you and I both hold in such high contempt. (Reid, Pelosi, etc.) But as with Obama, when he is elected President, I would be curious to note the degree to which the action matches the word.

Oh how I long for the heady days on this blog when M was willing to debate actual issues rather than lower himself to perpetuating the vitriolic exchange between the fringes of each "side" of our country. But as I've said before, it's easy to be the person that espouses "fairness" and "equality" and belittle those who act in a fashion that has consequences that run counter to the ideal. As much as it saddens me to say, M has become the caterer to those who seek to wallow in their own self-righteousness. (Yes...yippy dogs...I'm talking directly to you.)

No, M has made it very clear that he now knows the conservative ideology is wrong. Soften to a more moderate view? Probably only when it's convenient for him to do so. Which, the way the wind is blowing, is probably 8-10 years from now.

In hindsight, you're correct, but at the time, Michigan was promoting themselves as a title contender.

Could this the year the Little Brown Jug returns? Be still my heart!

...and the Axe? ...and Floyd. OK, ok...try to be calm.

Are you kidding me, dave? That is seriously delusional.

"However unlikely a McCain victory, should it happen, is it possible for the left to be a good loser?"

I have been cautiously optimistic all along. Many conservatives have already given up and declared Obama the victor. I'm not so certain. The Pennsylvania strategy, while a long shot, is somewhat solid. Of course, that's assuming that McCain wins Ohio and Florida.

What I find interesting about your good loser comment is its utter irrelevance to 2000 and 2004. Because of your belief bias, you immediately assume that those elections were won by George Bush fair and square. They weren't. It simply isn't possible for you to admit there was any wrongdoing because to do so would mean the end times. You can change an idea but you can't change a belief...which perfectly sums up the difference between liberals and conservatives, generally speaking.

It's not a big deal for me to admit that Kennedy's dad rigged 1960. Or that Democrats throughout time have rigged more elections than Republicans. It just so happens that Republicans got better at it in the last couple decades and the Democrats gave up.

No, I'm not kidding. One need only walk down Kellogg during the RNC to 'feel the love'. I could post 10 to 1 against you any day of the week on that topic.

2000/2004 have been done to death and every time you come up short. And short is an nice way of saying, you shot an air ball.

"You can change an idea but not a belief." Correct, it's futile to try to convince Karl Marx of the values of capitalism. But not everyone is as far gone as you and perhaps there is some wiggle room to work together.

You didn't address the question. Do you think your cohorts from the fringe left can conduct themselves in a civilized manner should they lose?

Dave,

I have to agree with M. You are delusional...at least with respect to the axe, the jug, floyd, etc. The boys are on a nice run, but don't get too carried away.

Obama talks on the tape also so there is a little more than listening on it. If it were as innocent as you describe there would be no reason not to release it - and if you think they are holding it simply because their source told them not to then you are extremely, extremely gullible markadelphia.

Don't you all give your "private" tapes to a major newspaper?

Mark Ward said...

"One need only walk down Kellogg during the RNC to 'feel the love'. I could post 10 to 1 against you any day of the week on that topic."

Actually, no. As in...Hell No.

To begin with, the same idiots you saw on Kellog, what few their where because the police arrested them all before they could actually do anything, were the same ones protesting in Denver. I hate to be the one to break this to you, Dave, but the Democratic Party are not a bunch of communists, socialists, terrorists who worship Che Guevera.

That is YOUR party's warped interpretation brought on by a psychotic and fervent ideology. If you want to see some "venom" as you put it, play a tape of the Republican National Convention. Or any speech by Sarah Palin recently for that matter.

Put on any one of McCain's ads and compare them to the 30 minute Obama special last night. And then come talk to me about venom. Your side is all about attack attack attack without offering any real solutions. And why? Because you don't have any. We tried things your way and how has it all turned out? A giant pile of shit and the party of "individual responsibility" blames the liberals.

The real problem is that the fringe element on your side has taken over your party. That is not the case with the Democrats although the Goebbelsesque propaganda machine has done a good job of brainwashing you into believing that Barack Obama is a Marxist/Terrorist bent on destroying your children.

PL talks of yippy dogs. Well, none are more prevalent than on the right. They sound pretty pathetic now considering all the damage the people you support have done to this country. When your party returns to the George Will, PJ O'Rourke, Charles Krauthammer, Kathleen Parker, and Christopher Buckley wing...then I might consider voting Republican as all of them are highly intelligent and have solid points. Stick with psychotic morons Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann and wave bye bye to every election for the next decade or more.

…wasted too much time on this yesterday to compile a list for you right now…perhaps if there’s some time this afternoon. I will note that my lovely office overlooking the cathedral closed early on the RNC finale because some of your nut job brethren brought a bag of Molotov cocktails to the party. ‘nough said.

I love this link… Here’s a group of liberal well wishers meeting my little brother’s unit of the SPPD on day 1 of the RNC.

I’ll take your non-response to the actual question as a tacit endorsement of my contention.

I'm just glad to see the return of the almighty pl.

Dave, don't forget the sandbags-off-the-bridge.

Mark Ward said...

Dave, as Senator Obama said in his speech in Denver...

We are the party of Roosevelt. We are the party of Truman and Kennedy. We know how to defend this country.

The only nut job brethren I worry about are from the right. They have a lot more piles of bodies and rubble to show for themselves than any PC liberal twit from Carlton College.

i see everyones buddy bill ayers wrote a book a while back and dedicated it to mr. Sirhan, the man who shot Robert Kennedy.

Typical lefty.

nice comparison markadelphia - comparing republican presidents to liberals in college.

So the reporters for 3 major newspapers who endorsed McCain - NY Post, Washington Times, and Dallas Morning News, got booted off Obamas plane. Those reporters have been on the plane for the last 1.5 years. Is that his idea of bringing the country together? What a joke.
