Concealed Carry Body Count

Looks like we have some data on concealed carry permits and gun violence. The data is very detailed. Here is an example...

Circumstances: On January 8, 2008, concealed handgun permit holder Joshua Noel Jones, 22, shot and killed 15-year-old Daniel Wayne “Danny” McKinnon. According to news reports, the two were traveling in a Chevrolet Z71 pick-up truck with two other friends—Alicia Algier, 23, and Justin Whiddon—after having visited a Wal-Mart and getting breakfast at a Waffle House restaurant. According to news reports, the three males were apparently “dry-firing” (pulling a gun’s trigger presumably without a bullet in the chamber) handguns at one another in the truck when Jones shot McKinnon with his 40 caliber handgun. When Algier was asked why she didn’t do anything to stop the males from dry-firing their guns, she stated, “It concerned me. They’re guys, I been told they do it all the time, dry firing their guns.” Whiddon also dry-fired a .22 handgun—owned by Algier—at Jones. In court, Algier stated, “I keep it for safety because I’m a woman.” Police retrieved three handguns and four rifles from the truck after the shooting. After allegedly shooting McKinnon, Jones did not give police an official statement, instead asking for an attorney. According to police he did, however, state that the handgun went off accidentally. Jones was charged with manslaughter and was convicted and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Responsible gun owners rejoice at "dry firing."

Yes, of course some people are irresponsible. I meet some of them every day on the freeway, yet these yahoos are allowed to drive from one to several tons of steel at high speed. It takes quite a lot to take away a drivers license, but guess what, even after that, some of them still drive!

Now, to get closer to the subject at hand, we can also review the many instances of police officers, "the only ones here trained to handle handguns," to closely paraphrase a DEA agent moments before shooting himself in the leg with his service pistol in a classroom full of kids. Will a review of firearms stupidity by the police tell us anything more useful than this tragic event you bring up? Other than that human beings are involved, and humans are imperfect. If not, why not?

You know what I can't figure out, Larry? I'd like to know whether cops are idiots who can't handle guns or, as in the case of Michael Brown, were awesome and stuff. Which is it? It seems awfully convenient how you guys change your tune on them.

Stop listening to the voices in your head asshole.

I think this has become an extra whiny excuse when you guys get caught in a dichotomy:)

People who answer questions with questions -- are trying to avoid answering the question. And when they finally do, they're likely lying.

But wait one fucking moment here, Markadaffiya! Has it ever occurred to you that our views may be nuanced, perhaps even more nuanced than your own?

What I'm saying is that anecdote can be answered with anecdote. The plural of anecdote isn't data, and anecdotes, per se, aren't terribly useful except in rhetoric (and boy howdy, do you love your rhetoric!). I'm attempting to point out to you that anecdotes are worthless for what you're trying to use them for. Did you not EVER take a class in debate, rhetoric, or logic? Are you completely fucking clueless?

Has is it ever occurred to you that your so-called "dichotomy" exists only in your head because YOU DON'T FUCKING UNDERSTAND WHAT OUR POSITIONS ACTUALLY ARE, despite being told repeatedly. At this point, I'm not sure whether that's due to a relatively benign form of insanity, or mental retardation.

This is an open forum, Larry. Feel free to use as much space as you'd like explaining the nuances. Maybe you will learn something about yourself:)

Ok, voice to head example. ...

Quote verbatim where any commenter here has said the cop in the brown case was "awesome and stuff" or something substantially similar.

So the same where we say "all" are idiots.

What are you even fucking trying to say?

You are the two-faced SOB on cops. Who has repeatedly said only cops can be trusted with guns? Hmm M? I know you like to forget what you said just as quickly as you say it - but try, real hard, to remember.

Oh, by the way, you're an ignorant fuckwit putting words in the mouths of people you don't know and don't even begin to understand, Markadelphia.

It's more like, "Irresponsible gun-banners rejoice at idiotic 'dry-firing'." Because they "think they've got something now, by God!"

Nowhere in any of these comments did I see a denial. I saw a lot of non denial denials, though. Perhaps you guys need to explain the nuances to me because from where I sit, cops are great when they shoot black people but idiots when we think they should be the only ones trusted with guns.

Now, if one of you says that the Michael Brown case illustrates that the police really aren't that well trained and that's why ordinary citizens should carry guns, then you would have a point that is consistent.

LMAO, must be like being caught in a dichotomy!

What a twerp.

cops are great when they shoot black people

Speaking of what has not be seen in this thread is exactly the above statement. Stop listening to the voices in your head, asshole.
