Really Bad Words

From a conversation with a gun "enthusiast"

"If you convince me 100000 will die from guns in the USA every year, unless we have gun control... And zero will die with gun control.... I still choose freedom. No matter who dies, I take the high road of freedom and justice for all."

Amen! It's a good thing we live in such a black and white world.

And don't we already have gun control?

It's amazing how endless death and destruction is the high road for these people. Making it trivial for criminals to get the weapons they need to commit murder and terrorism is not the definition of freedom.

How can anyone be really free if you can be killed walking down the aisle in Home Depot because some stupid woman keeps a gun where a two-year-old can get it? Or if some idiot can just cap you in the head over a parking spot?

How can you be free if you're in constant fear for your life, afraid everyone you see on the street is going to open fire on you because they're afraid you might open fire on them first, because they're afraid you're afraid they're going to open fire first. It's an endless vicious cycle.

Mutually Assured Destruction was a terrible diplomatic policy because it's only a matter of time before someone screws up and everyone dies. As a matter of social policy it's unsustainable in a democracy.

As I said just the other day, facts don't matter to these people. They only want what they want, they don't care about anyone else, they're willing to sacrifice everyone else's freedom and safety so they can have their toys, they're willing to use violence to get what they want, and facts will never get in the way of their lust for ... whatever it is they're lusting after.

And it ain't freedom.

Good points, Nikto, and that's a big reason why I pity people who think like this. Kevin Baker and his commenters truly live an unfree and ugly world.

Your fantasy worlds are rich, gentlemen. That's really all one can say. That and shake my head, and think to myself, "Dang, I could be just one severe concussion from being as dain-bramaged as these two dorks."
