Good Words

From a question on Quora...

This question sounds a bit like it was written by a teenage girl living in an upper-middle-class suburb who declares that she just had the Worst. Day. Ever. just because she didn't make the cheerleading squad and has a lot of homework that night.

An excellent summation of the maturity level of the president's critics.

Republicans live by the rule "If we keep repeating it until we're blue in the face and we HAVE FAITH it will become true."

It's especially important for them to do this because George W. Bush was so incredibly terrible: not only did he make some of the biggest blunders in history (sitting on his hands while bin Laden plotted 9/11, bungling both Afghanistan and the Iraq War, North Korea got the atomic bomb under Bush), he was easily one of the most incompetent presidents ever.

He was totally out to lunch on Katrina, and shepherded the second biggest economic crash with his laissez-faire attitude on rich bankers. His tax cuts, tilted totally in favor of the wealthy, exacerbated income inequality in this country, something which Obama is trying to address with his latest budget.

All the Obama "scandals" are nothing compared to Bush's blunders:

Benghazi: Four dead guys.

IRS: The agency was trying to do its job ferreting out crooks who commit perjury on federal tax forms and are who are still ripping off conservatives with their self-dealing PACs to this day.

Fast and furious: Never happened.

Healthcare.gov: a poorly launched website, like hundreds of other lousy tech initiatives that occur in both government and private business. This was perhaps the biggest debacle, and it only happened because Obama had to settle for a private solution instead of single-payer, which would have been far simpler: no website needed since everyone would be covered automatically.

Secret Service: it may have surfaced on Obama's watch, but they've been pulling the same crap for decades. These days "boys will be boys" just doesn't fly anymore.

And that's about it. With Bush you also had an endless stream of minor scandals in addition to the ones that killed thousands of Americans and impoverished millions: Jack Abramoff, the Scooter Libby/Valerie Plame deal, the Karl Rove/Harriet Myers/US attorney firings/voter suppression affair, Dick Cheney shooting old men in the face while drunk out of his gourd. Billions of dollars in cash airlifted into Iraq just disappeared into the pockets of "contractors." And on and on.

Obama? Some professor -- not even a White House staffer -- spouted off in a lecture about how dumb voters are when it comes to health care.

Obama's guys are all boy scouts compared to the Republicans.

Well said, Nikto. That's pretty much the reality of it all.

You should turn that Fast and Furious link into a full post:)
