Just Fucking Ugly

It was only a few months ago that Boehner and the GOP took over the house. They said their number one priority was jobs. Instead, we've had the repeal of health care, defunding planned parenthood and NPR, anaphylaxis about the Defense of Marriage Act and now the McCarthy like hearings on Muslims. So much for focusing on jobs.

Contrary to Robert Mueller's prediction six years ago, we haven't had any Muslims blowing themselves up in shopping malls. The Muslims that move here do so to get away from all the scumbags back in their home countries who are blowing everything up. They come here because this the land of opportunity and freedom. They have integrated in our society quite well and their children (many of whom I have taught in the last few years) are as American as iPhones, incessant texting, gross farting noises, and loud yelling over something that someone said to someone who heard it from someone else after 2nd block.

Oh, and wing nuts? Check your feed to see if some loco weed has been mixed in with it. Sharia law is not going to be instituted in this country.

King is actually making things worse and it's pretty fucking sad. I'm not surprised, of course, that the fear, hate and anger crowd in their never ending quest to manufacture a problem have done it again. Al Qaeda is officially on the wane. Revolutions in the Middle East happened without their input. Their ideas have now been proven to be completely without merit as this article in the Times so eloquently demonstrates. and they have failed to capture the imagination of the youth.

For many specialists on terrorism and the Middle East, though not all, the past few weeks have the makings of an epochal disaster for Al Qaeda, making the jihadists look like ineffectual bystanders to history while offering young Muslims an appealing alternative to terrorism.

Indeed. So how moronic does King look now?

King's political theater and pandering to paranoids reminds me of one of my favorite comic books (yes, I am a comic book geek) from the Miracleman series. In the issue written by Neil Gaiman, Mircaleman has to create an area of the world for former spies from both the Soviet Union and the United States to live out their lives. Y'see, they can't function in any sort of peaceful and cooperative environment. They only know adversarial types of interaction and relationships. So, they lived out their days in this little corner of the world...spying and killing each other....until they are all dead.

I can't think of a better solution for the xenophobes in our country and the hirabists scattered around the world. Let's find a nice place for them where they can live out their hate, anger, fear, and paranoia of one another. South Carlina maybe? Texas? They can fight each other until they are all dead which suits me just fine. The rest of us can go about solving the real problems of the world which would now be much easier with these two groups out of the way.

Who knows, though? They are all conservative so maybe they'll figure out a way to get along:)

I guess you're right, nobody has blown up a shopping mall. But I suppose saying that if Islamists would only try harder they would be more successful would be considered racist...

Should I put up a list of the right winger terror attacks of the last 20 years? They are far more substantive than any of these. And weren't some on your list foiled?

I know it sucks for you that we don't have angry Muslims blowing things up in this country but your view is making the problem worse, Guard Duck, not better. If you used your brain and thought about strategy for more than a minute, you would see that your attitude simply throws gasoline on a fire that was almost dead.

Once again, I find myself having to apologize for the ignorance and paranoia of my fellow Americans. If my idea goes through to give the xenophobes and hirbists their own country, should I book a spot for you? It will be on my dime. After all, I'm rolling in the dough as a public employee and all...

Aw, snap! For someone that doesn't want to win an argument, Mark, you sure know how to make someone your son!

The problem of terrorism isn't specific to Islam. Any absolutist belief system holding that the ends justify the means will ultimately kill innocent people.

This includes Muslim extremists, Christian extremists, Catholic extremists, Communist extremists, Hindu extremists, and so on. The key word is "extremist," not "Muslim."

Though Mark declined to list terrorist attacks committed by conservative Americans or Christians, I'll list a few: Tim McVeigh (Oklahoma City), Eric Rudolph (the Olympics in Atlanta, a bar and an abortion clinic), numerous doctor assassinations, the whack job who heard Glenn Beck's tirade about Soros and got into a shootout with the CHP on his way to kill everyone at the Tides Foundation, the unknown people who planted a bomb at this past MLK day parade in Washington state. Just to name a few.

And then there's one of the grand old terrorist organizations of the 20th century: the IRA. The very same terrorist organization that Rep. King still to this day thinks was completely justified in their actions when they killed thousands of people, including hundreds of civilians. King's rationale? They only attacked England, and King is an American, so the IRA bombers weren't terrorists. But aren't we, and have we not been for many, many decades, allies of England?

By King's rationale, no other country should have felt any obligation to help us track down Al Qaeda. Bin Laden attacked the United States, right? So why should England give a damn about helping us? Countries like Spain joined the coalition in the Iraq war, on the pretext that Iraq was involved in 9/11 and had WMDs, both of which claims were of course false. Al Qaeda bombed trains in Madrid in 2004. The bombings most likely affected the outcome of elections that were held, in which the incumbent president -- who supported Bush's attack on Iraq -- lost. An ally of ours backed our play -- unlike King, who still thinks the IRA was right for their killings -- and paid for it in blood.

King must believe our allies are suckers for helping us, because he'll support terrorists in their countries if it suits us.

But, you say, Al Qaeda killed people from dozens of countries when they hit the Twin Towers. So that makes them international terrorists and the whole world should be against them.

Sadly, so did the IRA. When they bombed Harrods in 1983 the IRA killed an American and injured an Irish American. The IRA had connections with the PLO during their terrorist heyday, which Glenn Beck has cheerfully pointed out.

Anyone who kills innocent people and uses "shock and awe" to instill fear into their enemies is by definition a terrorist.

King is the worst kind of shameless and brazen hypocrite. And this is the guy the Republican put in charge of the committee investigating terrorism?

I dunno M, do you really think that would win the argument? Maybe we should compare body-counts; whaddaya think?

Sheesh, for someone all up in everyone elses face about the desperate need to win.

Considering no one made a blanket statement that 'righties' don't want to blow up shopping malls, what would be the point?

And weren't some on your list foiled?

Yeah, by people who don't stick their head in the sand and pretend Muslims in this country are only here to play with their ipods.

that your attitude simply throws gasoline on a fire that was almost dead.

All of the incidents I listed are within the last five years. That's not almost dead. And as for my attitude, I've stood guard outside both synagogues and mosques protecting both from extremists of either stripe, so don't talk to me about my attitude.

Once again, painting with a broad brush without knowledge. How about some facts eh?

"More than 80 percent of all convictions tied to international terrorist groups and homegrown terrorism since 9/11 involved radical Islamists.
The Investigative Terrorism Project reported:

* More than 80 percent of all convictions tied to international terrorist groups and homegrown terrorism since 9/11 involve defendants driven by a radical Islamist agenda, a review of Department of Justice statistics shows.

* Though Muslims represent about 1 percent of the American population, they constitute defendants in 186 of the 228 cases DOJ lists…

* Al-Qaida is involved in the largest number of prosecutions, representing 30 percent of the 228 terror cases involving an identified group. Hizballah-affiliated defendants are involved in 10.5 percent of the cases and Hamas is part of 9 percent. Pakistani-based Lashkar-e-Tayyiba was involved in 6.5 percent of the cases.

* The Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka and the Colombian FARC lead the non-Islamist terrorist groups, combining for 14 percent of the total."

Further
"As the DOJ statistics cover cases prosecuted through March 2010, a series of homegrown Islamist terrorist plots thwarted in the last year are not included."

And only those listed with clear Islamic ties were included, not just all arab named defendants.

From: http://www.investigativeproject.org/2659/islamists-dominate-doj-list-of-terror-prosecutions

So Nikto, while this statement: The problem of terrorism isn't specific to Islam. is technically true, it is the vast majority of the problem. You and the other ostriches need wake up!

Once again, I find myself having to apologize for the ignorance and paranoia of my fellow Americans.

Once again, you show yourself as an ignoramus and completely stuck in your ideology instead of reality.

I'll add David Adkisson to the list as well.

So, Guard Duck, what would your reaction be if Denis Kucinich had hearings on libertarians?

You investigate the Klan, not Christians. You investigate the mafia, not Italians. You investigate the IRA, not the Irish. On that last one, King himself uses the same language regarding the IRA that some have used to defend Al Qaeda, as Nikto pointed out. Here is the video which shows King in his own words.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/11/jon-stewart-rips-peter-ki_n_834434.html

Yeah, by people who don't stick their head in the sand and pretend Muslims in this country are only here to play with their ipods.

I think you should share this comment with the people who you have stood guard for outside of a mosque. It's so unbelievably biased, bigoted, and xenophobic that it's disgusting.

GuardDuck said...

Mark I haven't made a comment about King, I was simply responding to your ignorant blanket statement.

RE:we haven't had any Muslims blowing themselves up in shopping malls.

I showed that to be an utterly ridiculous falsehood.

It seems you want to read more into what I said than I actually said.

Then you turn around and read less into what I said...

RE:Yeah, by people who don't stick their head in the sand and pretend Muslims in this country are only here to play with their ipods.

See that word that is bolded? Yeah, that's a qualifier. That changes the sentence from a blanket statement to something that is less than catagorical.

If your false statement:

we haven't had any Muslims blowing themselves up in shopping malls.

Instead said:

we haven't had many Muslims blowing themselves up in shopping malls.

That qualifier would have changed it's meaning entirely and actually made it true.

If your other statement:

The Muslims that move here do so to get away from all the scumbags back in their home countries who are blowing everything up.

Which is also false, instead had said:

The Muslims that move here mostly do so to get away from all the scumbags back in their home countries who are blowing everything up.

That statement would also be true. This other false statement:

They come here because this the land of opportunity and freedom.

Would have more accurately been said:

They don't only come here because this the land of opportunity and freedom.

Now I'll grant you that my qualifier could have been better placed within that sentence. Mea Culpa, typing on my phone during my lunch break crimps my editorial style. But regardless you'd have to be pretty dense for you to read this sentence:

by people who don't stick their head in the sand and pretend Muslims in this country are only here to play with their ipods.

And get out of it: by people who don't stick their head in the sand and pretend all Muslims in this country are here to play with their ipods. And since you thought it was biased, bigoted etc etc you obviously read that as: All Muslims are in this country only to blow shit up and we are all going to die! Die! Die! Don't look now, but your own bias is showing.

I'd shrug and chalk it up to his general insanity. Which really makes me wonder what the hell is wrong with Ohio that they keep electing the dingbat. Oh, wait, that's the same state that kept sending Trafficant back to Washington - until he was locked up.

Mark Ward said...

???

If you don't think that ALL Muslims are here to "blow shit up," then why investigate Muslims? We should be investigating CRIMINALS, right?

GuardDuck said...

Jeez Mark, I haven't said a thing about King yet you keep trying to put words into my mouth about him.

OK, absolutely we should only be investigating people who we have an actual probable cause to suspect are involved in unlawful activity. Anything other is a waste of time and resources as well as being contrary to the principles of liberty.

Sorry if I didn't make that clear upfront, but it is such a basic tenent of my ideology that it is sometimes hard to actually fathom fellow Americans who believe differently.
